Sr. Electrical Engineer Jobs

Our client, an engineering consulting firm for mechanical and electrical building services in Kitchener-Waterloo, is currently seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer to join their team immediately on a permanent full-time basis.
You will be joining a team committed to design integrity and quality attention to detail, and a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency to their approach. The successful candidate will take the lead role on all technical design requirements for assigned projects, project management, coordination with other disciplines, client building, management of the electrical team, and contract administration requirements throughout construction. This position will be working out of their head office in Waterloo, Ontario.
Role And Responsibilities

• Working with both external project teams and internal design teams to develop the electrical designs for a variety of buildings
• Overseeing and managing the workload of intermediate and junior staff members to ensure deadlines for projects are met
• Attending design meetings to represent the electrical discipline
• Reviewing and verifying design calculations for electrical systems
• Selecting relevant equipment
• Conduct performance reviews for staff with the Electrical Department Manager
• Overseeing the production of design documentation for assigned projects including the presentation of information on drawing sets, coordination of electrical systems with mechanical, architectural, and other disciplines, and contract administration requirements
• Training and mentorship for intermediate and junior staff
• Management of intermediate and junior electrical team members
• Provide consultation with clients on initial electrical engineering designs including options for systems, space planning exercises, and general consultation
• Lead on all technical requirements for electrical systems from preliminary designs phases thru to project completion including coordinating electrical services (and other services) for new construction, site photometric plans, electrical distribution design, fire alarm, generator (standby and life safety) designs, emergency and life safety systems, lighting & associated controls, and other electrical requirements to suit client standards and building classifications

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
• Extensive knowledge of relevant Canadian and Ontario codes and standards (OBC, OESC, IES, NFPA, IES, etc.).
• Ability to effectively resolve construction issues, manage client expectations, review construction sites, liaise with contractors, and other contract administration requirements.
• Extensive technical knowledge and ability to deliver electrical designs for a variety of building types, including, but not limited to power and distribution, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, life safety systems, generators, and other auxiliary systems such as IT, A/V, and communications.
• Licensed member of Professional Engineers of Ontario (P.Eng.).
• Working knowledge of mechanical, architectural, and structural drawings and systems as it relates to construction and the implications on electrical designs.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to think analytically, attention to detail, resourceful and detail-oriented, and team and customer service focused.
• Proven ability to manage a team of 3 to 4 electrical staff in the development and delivery of construction documentation and associated engineering calculations, coordination of electrical elements, and final verification of electrical design.
• Ten (10) plus years of electrical engineering experience in the building service industry.
• Critical thinking and analytical skills for exceptional problem solving and decision-making
• Experience in commercial, educational, retail, residential, and/or health care/long term care buildings is an asset.
