Ocean Software Developer Intern

We are seeking a resourceful, focused individual to join our team in Toronto, Ontario as a Java Cloud Software Engineer Intern. You will be part of a development team that writes Java-based applications that are used by the most demanding customers of the leading firms in the financial securities industry. We are looking for highly motivated developers who work well in a development team using iterative development methodologies to create high quality, professional back-end server applications. The ideal candidate will have a devotion to unit test coverage, test driven development and behavior driven development, will have experience/knowledge using Apache Spark framework. This roles requires good SQL skills to troubleshoot day to day problems.

The Developer will participate in the system architecture design, systems engineering, development, integration testing and validation, and all aspects of the software life cycle (requirements to design to implementation to test) for analytical reporting application. The candidate will be responsible for developing and testing Java, Scala and Python code as dictated by project requirements. Candidate will also be responsible for generating reports and troubleshoot reporting problems on a day-to-day basis.

Role Requirements: Currently studying in one of the following focus areas: Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology Management

Required:

• Strong programming skills in Java, Scala or Python
• Repos: GIT (GitLab, BitBucket)
• Comfortable in a LINUX command-line environment
• Strong SQL skills

Optional:

• Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform
• AWS Cloud Experience
• JSON, RESTful web-services
• Strong interpersonal skills, sense of humor and exceptional character
• JUnit, automated testing and test-driven development experience a plus
• Basic understanding of Apache Spark Framework

Project Overview: The application provide means of storing and retrieving data to a parquet based datalake and generate analytical reports. The goal of this project is to enhance existing capabilities of existing reporting framework by architecting and adding more features. The deliverables of this project are: architecture diagrams, documentation, java, scala and/or python code, unit tests, analytical reports.
