CONTEXT


The North American Director, Sourcing and Procurement is a key growth role for the organization. The Director will be focused on resetting the team, getting the team focused on and enabled to grow and refine the supply chain post pandemic. This will require someone with strong personal leadership skills who can motivate and nurture the team, while rebuilding where required.


ROLE OVERVIEW AND BACKGROUND


The North American Director, Sourcing and Procurement is responsible for the establishment of procurement strategies in the company’s North American operation that are consistent with the global procurement strategy and strategic vision. This critical role will develop a baseline understanding of the organization’s strengths, weaknesses, and value-creation opportunities within sourcing and procurement and proactively engage with internal business stakeholders, external stakeholders, and partners to understand their needs and priorities. This leader will ultimately set a vision and strategy for the procurement and sourcing regional organization, apply that strategy rapidly in real projects, and use it to capture real value for the organization.


KEY DELIVERABLES


The following essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Negotiate and manage key supplier relationships and regional supply contracts.
  • Communicate results to Global Director and COO and seek upper management support when necessary.
  • Implement best practices in sourcing, purchasing and supplier management to support commercial and operational objectives.
  • Conducts all work duties as per the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations, the health, safety & environmental policies, procedures, and company policies.
  • Identify areas for improvement to continually drive performance and business results.
  • Ensure the execution of sourcing and procurement strategies across the North American region to ensure consistent and high-quality value delivery. Identify and focus on procurement value proposition: margin improvement, risk reduction, resource access, innovation, sustainability, etc.
  • Ensure the execution of standards, controls, policies, procedures and performance metrics to effectively and efficiently manage the acquisition and reporting of third-party spend across the company.
  • Selects, develops, and motivates assigned staff.
  • Responsible for development, implementation and tracking of sustainable sourcing Initiatives.
  • Performs any other reasonable assignments given by your Department Management or his/her designates.
  • Oversee the development and execution of sourcing and procurement strategies across all categories within span of control including targets, timelines and resources.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with strategic suppliers to ensure cost, quality, and delivery targets are met.
  • Accountable to follow all policies and procedures defined in the company quality system.
  • Lead cross-functional sourcing teams, interact cross-functionally with all other departments in North America, and serve as an effective and value-added service for the entire organization.
  • Develop a change-management approach and culture.
  • Monitor category purchasing reports and ensure compliance with appropriate established policies and procedures on a continuous basis
  • Update procurement strategies based on changing market conditions.
  • Work with the Global Director and the Continuous Improvement team to establish departmental KPIs.
  • Analyze market and delivery trends to develop procurement technologies and processes that support those trends.
  • Collaborate with key persons to ensure clarity of the specifications and expectations of the company.
  • Promote continuous improvement/cost reductions on a regular and proactive basis.
  • Oversee RFX contract development, review processes and utilize appropriate support tools to enhance sustainable results


PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong command of vendor performance management and contract administration.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Diversified background with exposure to and/or experience in Sourcing Procurement, Accounting, Logistics and Supply Chain.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in achieving or beating challenging goals.
  • C.I.P.S., C.S.C.M.P. Certification is preferred.
  • 7 to 10 years of sourcing and procurement experience.
  • Experience with high-mix, low-volume purchasing and contract negotiation experience across a range of services and commodities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, develop and coach others.
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels.
  • Flexible and responsive to change.
  • Experience with developing and implementing successful cost saving initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen understanding of relevant cost drivers.
  • Good understanding of procurement and sourcing trends and best practices.
  • Good knowledge of legal environment related to purchasing contracts and framework agreements.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business, MBA a plus.
