Job Description

Summary


The National Buyer role has overall accountability for the performance of the Supply Chain as it relates to customer fill rates and inventory management. Responsible for a group of suppliers shipping to 6 Canadian warehouses, the Buyer will work cross functionally with internal team members and external suppliers to purchase goods, optimize inventory, manage change, and ensure optimal performance to the customer.Collecting critical supplier information, ensuring data integrity, and leveraging ERP functionality are all critical focus areas to ensure purchase orders are placed on time and at the right quantity.The Buyer will continually look for ways to improve Supply Chain performance and exceed customer expectations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure system data integrity regarding item forecast, supplier lead times, and other critical order and replenishment parameters.
  • Play a key role in the business change management process, phasing in new items and phasing out the old.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain relationships with a defined set of suppliers, establishing a foundation of trust, open communication, and accountability.
  • Drive best-in-class customer fill rates while ensuring optimal levels of inventory.
  • Support the expediting team with escalations related to receiving discrepancies (i.e., overages, shortages, damaged).
  • Review and analyze material requirements daily to enable the creation of purchase orders and warehouse transfers.
  • Participate in meetings with key suppliers and to provide feedback on performance and set improvement targets for the future.
  • Monitor inventory levels and sales trends, then take the appropriate action to minimize the risk of obsolescence.Inventory returns, PO cancellations, internal transfers, etc.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal customers and suppliers, working collaboratively to resolve problems and take advantage of opportunities.
  • Set expectations with suppliers regarding communication, performance, responsiveness, and other key facets of the working relationship.
  • Support the expediting team with escalations related to critical items, shortages, and customers.

Qualifications

  • Excellent command of Microsoft tools, specifically Excel (i.e., Pivot Tables, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • University or College degree in the field of Business/Supply Chain Management/Engineering or other relevant discipline
  • In-depth experience using a business ERP system such as Epicor, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar.
  • 3+ years of Supply Chain related experience, preferably in a distribution environment
