Job Description

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Medical Technologist to join the Clinical Laboratory Team at Bella Coola General Hospital in Bella Coola, BC. Apply today to join our team!


As an Medical Technologist, you will


  • Be responsible to provide technical leadership and expertise in the provisioning of Laboratory Services.
  • Perform a variety of routine/complex tests utilizing manual and automated procedures/instruments.
  • Facilitate workplace solutions and the implementation of new techniques and procedures.
  • Schedule staff activities and participates in recruitment and performance management; train and coach team members.
  • Participate in the planning and coordination of services; monitor the quality of technical work performed to ensure departmental standards are met and safety procedures are followed.


Education & Experience


  • Bachelor of Science degree, an Advanced Registered certificate or completion of a supervisory/management program.
  • Five (5) years’ recent related experience, including supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Certified by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science.


Knowledge & Abilities


  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and deal with others effectively in a supportive and positive manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and recent related experience in related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage own learning to meet future challenges within the organization.
  • Basic knowledge of computerized systems relating to the laboratory.
  • Skill in the operation of related equipment and in techniques appropriate to the laboratory.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member, leader and facilitator
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.


The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.


As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
