Location
Full-time, in-person role where the candidate is expected to work out of our location on Western University’s campus in London (Ontario, Canada).
Duration
12-month contract, with possibility of extension.
Anticipated start date
August 21, 2023 (start date can be negotiated)
Time commitment
Full-time (40 hours/week), typically Monday to Friday but with occasional work hours on weekends in case of clinical testing (offset by equal time off on a Monday to Friday workday).
Compensation and benefits

JOB SUMMARY

Come join Tenomix’s R&D team to help develop a breakthrough technology that utilizes robotics, ultrasound imaging, and machine learning to locate lymph nodes in surgically removed colon cancer tissues.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, who is motivated, energetic, and passionate about their work. As part of our team, you will:
- Build workflow-related tools that complement our core technology.
- Build an inventory of device consumables.
- Prepare relevant device documentation related to a quality management system.
- Assist with prototype bench-top and clinical testing.
- Create CAD models and translate CAD into engineering drawings.
- Program motor drivers and improve robot performance.
- Help translate prototypes to commercial products.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure robot wiring/electronics are suitable for clinical use.
- Design robotic end effectors and tools related to tissue preparation workflow that complement Tenomix’s core technology.
- Conduct critical bench-top and clinical experiments with the prototype.
- Create renderings in SolidWorks for use in marketing materials.
- Participate in and document end-user prototype feedback sessions.
- Translate original CAD of the prototype into engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Prepare relevant device documentation related to a quality management system.
- Carry out refinements and build duplicates of the existing prototype robot, which involve CAD/CAM, supplier management, additive and subtractive manufacturing, electronics hardware soldering, electronic circuit design, stepper motor and pathfinding programming, and device validation.
- Build an inventory of the above-mentioned device consumables, which requires 3D printing and assembly work.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Experience with additive manufacturing and technical/engineering drawings.
- Ability to work independently, as well as work efficiently as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy when completing tasks.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to convey (electromechanical) engineering concepts and information in an understandable manner to individuals from different (non-engineering) disciplines.
- Willingness to learn and open to feedback.
- Experience with motor drivers and/or CNC robotics.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience programming in C.
NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS
- Experience with hands-on work related to electromechanical builds beyond classroom requirements through hobbies, clubs, or previous employment/internships.
- Strong organizational skills to succeed in a fast-paced and evolving work environment.
- Ability to comprehend biomedical/health sciences-related topics.
- Prior experience in a regulated industry.
- Strong interest in biomedical engineering and a desire to learn about the med-tech industry, where prior experience of working with clinicians is an asset.
- Prior experience with C# and python programming languages.
EDUCATION:
Mechatronics, mechanical, or electrical engineering with a minimum of 1 year of industry experience or a relevant Master's degree.
