Artistic Fraud is seeking a dynamic, creative, and detail oriented individual to join our team as Managing Producer.
Hailed as one of English Canada’s most daring and innovative theatre companies, Artistic Fraud was formed in St. John’s in 1995. The works of the company and its creative leads – director Jillian Keiley and playwright Robert Chafe – have played across the country to high acclaim and have garnered Jill the 2004 Siminovitch Prize for directing and Robert the 2010 Governor General’s Literary Award for Drama. The highly successful original plays of Artistic Fraud includeFear of Flight,Afterimage,Oil & Water, Under Wraps, The Colony of Unrequited Dreams, Between Breaths, Everybody Just C@lm the F#ck DownandI Forgive You.Though carefully plotted and meticulously assembled, the goal of the work is the effortlessly organic; a performer driven stage where spectacle meets story.
We are looking for a Managing Producer; a collaborative self-starter to help shape the next exciting phase of Artistic Fraud’s evolution. The successful candidate will work closely with Artistic Director Robert Chafe to plan seasons and budgets,and to be the administrative and production lead on a variety of initiatives including workshops, premiere productions, touring works, fundraisers, and related activities.For the right candidate this position comes with flexibility and a focus on maintaining a healthy work/life balance.

Employment Opportunity – Managing Producer
Selection Criteria:
- Minimum 5 years management or producing experience in not-for-profit or arts sector
Responsibilities will include:
- Representing the theatre at regional and national conferences
- Collaborating with the Artistic Director to develop season plans and corresponding budgets
- Collaborate with Board Chair to coordinate meetings of the Board of Directors, prepare narrative and financial reports on a monthly basis
- Participate in regional, provincial and national committees relevant to the theatre (Professional Association of Canadian Theatre, Association of Professional Theatre of NL)
- Support proposal and grant writing activities
- Assisting the AD in the selection of creative personnel, stage management & production teams, including artist outreach, auditions, etc.
- Providing support to our creative team and casts, including fulfilling company management duties to ensure the smooth operation of our productions
- Collaborate with Artistic Director and board of directors to create and execute fundraising campaigns
- Manage artist/contract payroll; compliance, payments, and reporting for activities across the organization
It would be considered an asset if the candidate has the following:
- Familiarity with arts granting funding agencies including Canada Council for the Arts, Canadian Heritage, Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, City of St. John’s
- Proven ability in proposing and initiating solutions for various operational and artistic challenges
- Post-Secondary training in Theatre, Arts, Business Administration or a related field
- A track record of developing partnerships within the theatre sector, including co-productions, touring and industry development initiatives
- Relevant experience working with CADAC, QuickBooks Online, Payroll processes, Online Commercial Banking
- To have experience audit processes, annual filing requirements and best practices for registered charities and not for profit organizations in Canada
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and complete work in a timely manner.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong understanding of accounting practices for non-profit organizations
- A strong understanding of business practices within the non-profit theatre ecology in Canada
- To have experience in not-for-profit governance, working with a board of directors
About the position
Location: Hybrid with on-site expectations in St. John’s, NL
Full-Time, 35 hrs / wk
Salary: 50,000/yr (negotiable)
