The Opportunity
We are looking for a Manager, Business Unit for our Land Development and Contaminated Sites Management (CSM) Business Unit. The successful candidate can be based from any Dillon office across Canada. As part of Dillon’s Markets leadership team, the Manager, Business Unit will manage the operations of the business unit including business development, sales of the services offered and delivery of the projects.
Responsibilities
What your day may look like:
  • Achieve operational performance objectives including growth of the business
  • Strengthen relationships with existing clients
  • Acquire new clients
  • Develop and implement the business unit plan
  • Assign and manage performance of Project Managers delivering projects
  • Manage risk (Technical, Financial and Health and Safety) of pursuits and projects
  • Manage and develop sales and account leaders
The nature of the role is dynamic and the scope of responsibilities may change from time to time to support evolving business needs. This role reports to the Director of Business Unit Operations.

  • Manage the operations of your business unit which includes:
  • Take a market approach to the sales of offered services

  • Be effective at sales and marketing efforts including:
  • Manage risk of our annual revenue delivery, client segments, service diversity, profit profile, and sales forecasts
  • Help with the performance of the business development and account managers functioning in your business unit
  • Show ongoing and demonstrable innovation within your business unit
  • Deliver exceptional client experience
Business development
  • Hold business development and sales managers accountable for achieving their annual objectives
  • Ensure strong pipeline of opportunities and backlog
  • Oversight and support of “go” and “no-go” decisions being made by Account Managers
  • Integrate market insights into annual plans and strategic plans
  • Meet with existing and potential clients
  • Maintain strong understanding of the marketplace and opportunities
Learning & Development
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
  • Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring
  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
Qualifications
What you will need to succeed
  • Minimum 15 years of related professional experience ideally with at least 5 years at a manager level
Experience
  • Ability to drive results and effectively manage a variety of projects
  • Experience working in professional services consulting preferred, applicants from other industries will be considered
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Exceptional business acumen and client focused experience
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate
  • Proven experience developing a team of engineering professionals
