Manager, Academic Technology Infrastructure And Labs

Administrative Full-time New Position
The Manager of Academic Technology Infrastructure and Labs is accountable for the strategic and tactical planning, security, support, maintenance, access control, and operations of the on-premise and cloud-hosted enterprise infrastructure, as well as specialized laboratory classrooms for the School of Applied Computer Science and IT (ACSIT).
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with four days on-site, and one day remote. Travel may be necessary to other Conestoga campuses as required.
Responsibilities
ACSIT Infrastructure and Labs Leadership

• Delegate responsibility and reallocate resources to ensure priorities are met for initiatives within area of responsibility and to ensure that organizational objectives and standards are achieved
• Provide guidance and direction to Lab specialists regarding work procedures and operational outcomes
• Schedule and allocate tasks to staff, considering classroom academic needs, potential service outages or procedural risks
• Provide mentorship, onboarding, training & orientation, and professional development to the ACSIT Academic Technology Infrastructure and Labs team

Tactical & Strategic Planning

• Evaluate opportunities and provide expertise related to the acquisition of technology
• Provide input into the development of department goals, objectives, strategic plan, and policies and procedures
• Prepare infrastructure assessments and technology specifications to outline the impacts of new solutions within a hybrid cloud environment
• Coordinate with vendors to develop installation, training, and implementation plans
• Provide guidance to ACSIT Leadership Team related to new solutions required to fulfil identified classroom and infrastructure technology needs
• Provide ACSIT leadership team with consultation regarding the technical requirements and specifications for facilities expansion projects
• Work with the Chairs and Coordinators to align major initiatives and establish operational priorities for the team
• Maintain estimates, forecasts, and progress reports to facilitate budgeting, cost management, and departmental administration initiatives

Infrastructure Operations

• Follow industry best practices related to technology infrastructure and security
• Respond to urgent remediation of service or equipment outages
• Oversee the installation, configuration, and deployment of production servers, storage, monitoring, power distribution, backup appliances, cloud-based compute and storage
• Oversee technical operations, providing guidance and investigative experience to ongoing operational incidents, performance concerns, or service outages
• Plan, coordinate configure and implement changes to existing technology infrastructure
• Obtain, schedule and coordinate 3rd party vendor engagements, projects, resources, and associated reoccurring costs

Procedure, Process, & Automation Development

• Develop protocols to operationalize & automate the management, maintenance, security and performance needs of a distributed hybrid cloud environment
• Create guidelines, procedures, and policies to manage ACSIT infrastructure and labs operations
• Establish and maintain a set of security standards applicable to all on-premise devices and cloud-hosted infrastructure services

Qualifications

• Three-year Diploma/Degree in an Information Technology related field
• Demonstrated project management experience
• Consistently demonstrate sound judgement and logical decision making
• Ability to foster and maintain trust-based business relationships
• Experience with Azure cloud and virtualized computer and storage services
• Industry recognized IT and Cloud related certifications, such as Microsoft Azure Certifications, ITIL, CompTIA Cloud/Server Plus, are required
• Effective communication, teamwork, time management, and organizational skillsets
• Seven years of related work experience, including experience leading a team as well as in a hybrid on-premise/Azure environment, is required
• Ability to successfully gather information, and support organizational solutions & goals
