Job Title: Director of Information Technology (IT)


Department: Administration


Overview


The Director of Information Technology, reporting to the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Administration, is responsible for planning, developing, and managing all IT services, programs, and support throughout the organization. This role includes overseeing the implementation, deployment, and operation of information systems and technology solutions to meet the organization's business needs. Additionally, the Director of IT will assist senior management in strategic and tactical IT planning.


Duties


The Director of Information Technology will be responsible for the following:
  • IT Services and Support:
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise a skilled team of IT professionals.
  • Project Management:
  • Assist senior management in developing and executing IT strategic and tactical plans.
  • Plan, develop, and manage all IT services, programs, and support across the organization.
  • Technology Acquisition and Management:
  • Manage IT-related projects, ensuring clear capture of business requirements, provision of functional deliverables, milestone planning, and post-mortem reporting.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to gather feedback, address concerns, and ensure effective communication regarding IT services and projects.
  • Contribute to the writing of grants, RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs to secure funding for IT initiatives.
  • Assist in developing and managing the budget for technology, IT services, and personnel.
  • Team Management and Development:
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Oversee the implementation, deployment, and operation of information systems and technology solutions to meet business needs.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend improvements and innovations.
  • Conduct capacity planning for network bandwidth, storage requirements, messaging systems, websites, and other applications.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful project completion.
  • Conduct regular evaluations to assess the effectiveness of IT strategies and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to ensure efficient and cost-effective technology acquisitions.
  • Strategic and Tactical Planning:
  • Budgeting and Grants:
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment that encourages innovation and continuous learning.
  • Create status reports and present findings to senior management, conveying the impact of IT initiatives on organizational goals.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to enhance the team's performance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify IT priorities aligned with organizational goals.
  • Research, design, and implement appropriate technologies to support and improve corporate communications, information access, and end-user productivity.
  • Capacity Planning and Compliance:
  • Plan and deliver end-user training as required to promote technology adoption and proficiency.
  • Monitor and control expenditures, negotiate contracts, and optimize vendor relationships to maximize cost-effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective project implementation and delivery.
  • Provide internal IT support and ensure timely resolution of technical issues.
  • Develop business cases for technology investments, considering ROI and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Reporting and Communication:


Qualifications
  • Time-oriented approach to handling queries and tasks.
  • Possession of a valid BC driver's license and own vehicle is an asset.
  • Direct experience working with First Nations is preferred.
  • Effective leadership skills, with a focus on mentoring and motivating employees.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to implement strategic solutions.
  • Willingness to provide a criminal record check.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to delegate, set expectations, and monitor progress.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and industry advancements.
  • A degree or advanced degree in computer science, computer systems engineering, software engineering, web design, business administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a management role and five years of experience in a related industry.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in urgent situations.
  • Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong understanding of industry regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
