The role of Senior Director, Information Technology

You are a born innovator, ready lead the technology team through a period of innovation with a material investment in technology including security, workflow automation, data driven decision making and visual reporting. You are responsible for mentoring and guiding six direct reports and building strong working relationships with supporting technology vendors.

As part of the IT team, you will report to the Chief Financial & Technology Officer and some of your key duties will include:

Management & Leadership:

  • Expanding the culture of innovation, teamwork, agility and idea generation
  • Providing expertise and strategic direction for the department
  • Actively coaching and mentoring your direct reports to ensure objectives and goals are met and individual and team successes are celebrated.
  • Hiring, onboarding and performance management
  • Championing diversity, equity and reconciliation and workplace health, safety and wellness
  • Applying change management and project management best practices
  • Building supportive and trusting relationships across all functions of the organization and ensuring technology used in operations is relevant, user friendly and implemented effectively and securely.
  • Supporting the development of and compliance with IT policies and procedures,
  • Modelling exceptional standards of ethics, professionalism and five star internal and external customer service standards.
  • Embracing data, technology and automation to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of technology across the organization

Technology:

  • Overseeing the technological infrastructure to ensure optimal performance
  • Overseeing the IT department and special IT project budgets
  • Supporting the ROI analysis of acquisition/replacement/divestment decisions.
  • Evaluating prospective IT vendors and acting as the key liaison for complex issues and pricing negotiations
  • Attending Finance & Audit Committee and Board of Directors meetings, as required
  • Expanding, tracking and reporting on key performance indicators (KPI’s)
  • Overseeing the development of the annual technology budget
  • Expanding and maintaining the emergency/disaster plans for IT, ensuring appropriate systems are in place for continuity of support in an emergency and leading IT support in an emergency.
  • Charting and monitoring the long term technology plan including software, hardware, infrastructure, data, security, policies, training and governance.
  • Monitoring and actively recommending amendments to key internal controls.
  • Chairing the internal Technology Governance Committee
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with industry peers and maintain a commitment to continued education, learning and innovation.
  • Overseeing the design and monitoring of IT infrastructure at all locations.
  • Collaborating on the development of an organization wide data architecture map, hiring of a data analyst, data hygiene prioritization and a data maturity roadmap
  • Sponsoring or co-sponsoring major IT projects which may include: software replacement, critical systems integration, a centralized data management solution, data dashboarding, etc.
  • Overseeing internal phishing testing and phishing education program
  • Identifying opportunities to optimize existing technologies to increase organizational effectiveness and impact
  • Acting as the internal liaison for the annual independent cyber security audit
  • Overseeing and optimizing the performance of helpdesk
  • Proactively presenting opportunities for investment in technology, including analyzing benefits, costs, risks and resourcing

What skills have you developed?
  • You are naturally curious and great at information gathering: determining what you’ll need, sourcing it, analyzing, distilling and reporting back.
  • When you see a problem or an opportunity to make something better you bring forward solutions grounded in due diligence, cost, benefit and risk analysis.
  • You have a minimum of 8 years’ experience in technology including a minimum of three years in a Director role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer.
  • You care deeply about the members of your team and have a demonstrated history of coaching and professionally developing your mentees.
  • You can effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders including individuals with limited technology experience.
  • You have a robust understanding of cyber security, infrastructure, networks, data architecture, data management, hardware, software, strategy and IT governance.
  • You have experience analyzing and implementing new IT systems
  • You’re an effective, clear communicator in all formats.
  • You have experience working or volunteering with a non-profit in an IT role
  • You know when something is your responsibility and when you have to escalate something. If you don’t know, you’ll ask for help.
  • You can demonstrate current professional development in technology.
  • You can lead multiple, complex IT projects concurrently using project and change management best practices.
  • BSc/BA in computer science or equivalent
  • Relevant technical experience includes, but is not limited to the following:
  • You strive to deliver ahead of deadlines and regularly finish projects on time (or early!)
  • You can articulate how risk management works and have experience identifying, documenting and mitigating risks.
  • You can effectively support the translation of user requirements into technical requirements.
