Contract: Long Term Contract, 5 days a week, 8:30 – 16:00

Are you an aspiring Physiotherapist seeking experience in working with children with complex needs? GSL has a Graduate Learning Support Assistant role available in Romford within a specialist school for children with Autism and associated complex social needs.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work with children with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, Severe Learning Difficulties, High Support Autism, Muscular Dystrophy, OCD, and ADHD. You will gain experience in working with a range of physical and neurological conditions that present barriers to education.

The provision focuses on PMLD children with Autism and Complex Social Needs, aged 3-16. Each child will have an EHCP for their specific need(s), and the level of learning is specific to each class. The school tailors the curriculum for each student based on ability, not the child's age, with a heavy focus on learning through play and marginal achievements that can evolve into sustainable progress.

Your role is critical in giving the children as much joy, stimuli, and recognition as possible. Many children with PMLD present with significant communication difficulties, which can make it hard for them to express their emotions and have them acknowledged. Art and Music therapy can be used to create meaningful connections with those who are often isolated and frustrated.

It's important to know early which parts of the Physiotherapy sector spark joy for you, and the children. You will see many Physio techniques within this role, and this experience will help you to qualify and disqualify the sectors for yourself.
