As a Leader, Strategic Initiatives & Innovation with Vancouver Coastal Health you will


  • Support the development and measurement of key metrics.
  • Lead reviews of staffing resources, working relationships, associated workflows and current patient care experiences.
  • Provide operational leadership, coordination and coaching on a variety of projects, programs and strategic initiatives that align to the organization’s mission, vision and values and support organizational transformation.
  • Implement improvement opportunities (deploying appropriate project management techniques) to ensure the needs of patients/clients/residents are met. Provides expert decision support for service and care delivery innovations and leverages similar opportunities across the region.
  • Maintain effective relationships and strategic partnerships with customers and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure consistency of policy and practices and new evolving organizational strategies. Primary working relationships are with clinical and corporate staff, Human Resources, Information Management/Information Systems (IMIS) and Decision Support.
  • Provide formal process improvement expertise, using process improvement models and other quality improvement tools, in planning, training and project implementation.
  • Participate on committees and meetings.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives directed at improving clinical operations, services and process changes across the organization.


Education & Experience


  • Comprehensive knowledge and expertise in the use of process improvement tools and methodologies.
  • Recognized process improvement certification and experience preferred. Experience in leading continuous process improvement and process re-design projects. Current registration with a recognized professional association is preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Health Administration or other relevant field plus five (5) to seven (7) years’ recent, related experience including experience in areas such as process improvement, modeling, and reengineering in a clinical setting.


Knowledge & Abilities


  • Well-developed communications and interpersonal skills including ability to facilitate work groups and present project findings and results.
  • Strong project management, prioritization and planning skills in designing and re-designing strategic clinical transformation and process improvement
  • Knowledge of health care disciplines and their role in health care.
  • Knowledge of current change management practices and trends and understanding of key issues associated with healthcare operations and service delivery. Possesses accurate health environment and political awareness.
  • Knowledge of business analysis and project management methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of change management, project management and communication key principles and best practices to develop and oversee change initiatives. Applies change management methodologies in the design and development of various programs, frameworks and tools.
  • Extensive experience with the facilitation of interdisciplinary groups.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence key personnel across multiple organizational areas and geographies, while influencing positive change through awareness, understanding, acceptance and engagement.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy with standard desktop applications and Internet tools.
  • Demonstrated excellent business skills in the effective management of resources.


As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
