Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Director, the Manager Operations & Strategic Initiatives is responsible and accountable for designing and implementing effective strategies to support the development and delivery of projects, core programs, and services in Professional Practice. The Manager leads a multi-disciplinary team of professionals, to provide and ensure: strategic planning, change and project management best practices; standard operating policies and procedures as well as providing appropriate training; mentoring and coaching of team members in change and project management principles. The Manager is responsible for resource alignment of team staff, management of vendor contracts and centralized communications with client team members, Professional Practice leadership and Island Health stakeholders including the development and production of internal and external Professional Practice reports. The Manager also leads the team in development and management of quality assurance and improvement processes.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And Experience
A level of Education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in a field such as Business, Health Administration, Organizational Development, Project Management, Leadership and five (5) to seven (7) years' recent related progressive experience including leading project and change initiatives, working with interdisciplinary approaches in ideally a health care or public sector setting, several years as a project manager or project coordinator, and leadership experiences.
Skills And Abilities
  • Demonstrated numeracy skills including the use of supporting tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with others, ability to communicate clearly and effectively, interact comfortably with senior personnel, ability to manage conflict effectively, and ability to facilitate and negotiate with the capability to provide leadership to a diverse team.
  • Demonstrated Strategic and operational planning skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of change and project management principles and methodologies.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills coupled with the ability to write, analyze or edit high quality business documents such as master project plans, proposals, service level agreements, risk management plans, communications plans, progress reports and project wrap-up documentation.
  • Ability to adapt, remain flexible, make decisions, and work well under pressure in order to meet deadlines in an environment subject to changing priorities and resource constraints.
  • Proven ability to track, coordinate and integrate external issues as they affect goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated success as a project manager and the successful completion of at least one large project within the last five years.
