Description

Michels Canada is looking for a Tunnel Surveyor. The Tunnel Surveyor will contribute as a subject matter expert on major project pursuits and execution in the field Michels Canada, Tunneling and Trenchless Division. The successful candidate will have the ability to maintain a professional attitude and demonstrate teamwork and leadership. Strong communications skills are a must. This position will be based in Nisku, AB.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, prepare and submit quantity surveys for progress billing and claim verification purposes.
• Interface with client company survey contractors and resources to ensure all survey and measurement related contract requirements are met and adhered to.
• During construction, use software such as Civil3D to prepare quantitative grade plans.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Assist with project bidding processes including land reconnaissance, take-offs, grade evaluation and quantification using terrain mapping software.
• Accurately run survey measuring instruments including Global Navigation Software System (GNSS) equipment and robotic total stations to collect quality field survey data.
• Conduct GNSS processing; conventional observation reductions and level reductions.
• Keep accurate field notes by recording all relevant survey/layout data.
• Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
• Attend and participate in planning meetings to help coordinate work between the Construction Manager, Project Engineer, Superintendent, and foremen for each project.

Requirements

• Supervisory, foreman or party chief experience.
• Basic math skills.
• A theoretical knowledge of survey engineering and geography.
• Experience and mastery of GPS and modern surveyor’s tools.
• Certified Land Surveyor.
• 5+ years tunnel surveyor experience is required.
• Superior field note recording skills.
• Experience using VMT Guidance Systems is an asset.
• Able to survey and layout pipeline field bends.
• Degree or Diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology.
• Able to utilize and work with GIS, ESRI, ArcMap, Civil3D and LIDAR platforms.

LANGUAGES

• Must be able to communicate verbally and through written language (by hand and digitally) in English.
