What You Would Do in This Role


The Lead Engineer leads a discipline engineering team in the design of different aspects of energy industry projects from inception to completion. Duties include:

The Lead Engineer leads a discipline engineering team in the design of different aspects of energy industry projects from inception to completion. Duties include:


  • Supporting development, implementation and maintenance of discipline design standards, checklists and procedures
  • Establishing scopes of work, schedules and priorities for projects or proposals
  • Authenticating documentation with a professional engineering stamp as required
  • Updating project schedule on a weekly basis including marking tasks which are completed, in progress, and any potential delays. In addition, ensure tasks are listed correctly in schedule. Project schedule along with tracking engineering tasks and deliverables are to be reviewed and maintained in conjunction with Project Management.
  • Applying strong working knowledge of process simulation (HYSYS) techniques and stream table development
  • Providing leadership and mentorship to project/program discipline engineering team; acting as a focal point for expertise and direction on engineering solutions
  • Performing other duties as requested
  • Providing construction support
  • Ensuring adherence to Vista Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Ensuring design is in accordance with applicable codes and requirements, including Vista and client specifications and standards
  • Maintaining current knowledge of industry and regulatory standards
  • Approving discipline deliverables
  • Developing Process Engineering Manhour Estimates and Manpower Planning/Allocation/Updating for projects/proposals. This includes updating ForecastWeb on a weekly basis and ensuring it is suitably completed to align with the demand of the Project/Program Manager. The forecast should be updated to current project plans and changes to work plans/resourcing needs are communicated through change management to project stakeholders.
  • Attending status meetings with clients, project management and suppliers
  • Coordinating activities with other departments and clients
  • Applying broad working knowledge of multiple process systems and commonly encountered equipment
  • Assisting in the negotiation of critical engineering issues
  • Actively stewarding change management for their discipline activities and impacts to other discipline activities
  • Guiding discipline team on project work through to completion in accordance with the schedule and budget on assigned major projects of high technical complexity
  • Reviewing vendor or subcontractor quotations, drawings, and specifications for technical adequacy and conformance with project requirements
  • Applying strong working knowledge of the preparation and review of process studies and design documentation
  • Administering the planning, scheduling, cost control and technical conformance to the design
  • Scheduling and expediting department work
  • Preparing weekly progress reports for each project including work completed, work planned for the following week and discipline needs
  • Providing guidance in the design and delivery of complex engineering projects within their discipline
  • Preparing and reviewing deliverables such as PFDs, P&IDs, Line Lists, datasheets, design calculations, etc.
  • Supervising an engineering team involved in the conception, planning and development of engineering design, projects, processes, proposals and estimates
  • Assigning and reviewing work of discipline engineering staff


Required


  • Ability to work and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and designers including process, mechanical, civil, structural & architectural, electrical, instrumentation & controls and piping
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of applicable codes and industry standards
  • Ten-plus years of progressive experience in engineering and design in the energy industry
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated and efficient with time management
  • Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail
  • P.Eng. registration with APEGA


Preferred


  • Three or more years of experience leading an engineering team in an EPC environment
  • 15 years or more of experience as a fully qualified engineer, with five years’ experience in the energy industry
