The Regina Open Door Society (RODS) is a non-profit organization that provides settlement and integration services to refugees and immigrants in Regina. RODS is committed to meeting the needs of newcomers by offering programs and services that enable them to achieve their goals and participate fully in the larger community.


The Regina Open Door Society Inc. is seeking a qualified individual to staff the full-time term position of Kids First Newcomer Outreach Worker (KF-NOW). The term for this position is September 1, 2023 - August 31, 2024 with possibility of extension


Position Description


The primary responsibility of this position is to promote the Kids First Program amongst newcomers. The position also facilitates referrals to Kids First by providing ongoing outreach and supportive services to immigrant and refugee newcomers in Regina to access the KF programs and services.


Primary Responsibilities


  • Exhibits a positive attitude, which lends to productive work
  • Introducing the KF program to pregnant newcomer families and completing referral forms
  • Complies with RODS Documentation Complete case notes, data entries (i.e. KIMS), and reports in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of data input/collection, privacy compliance, event organization, goal planning, monitoring, and evaluation of service
  • Experience/knowledge of basic program support (i.e. filing, preapprovals, caseload admission tracking, creating files)
  • Be available for flexible hours
  • Offer guidance and support to KF home visitors with referring KF newcomer families to the Pre-K Liaison at Eagle Heart Centre for Pre-K information and registration
  • Working with RODS Settlement, Family, and Community Services (SFCS) to support newcomer families with their parenting settlement needs and make referrals to connect families with appropriate settlement support
  • Maintain strength-based, family-centered, and culturally sensitive environment
  • Meets routinely with supervisor /team leader to consult, case plan, and/or discuss directions
  • Works with all team members to create a warm and accepting environment for all children and
  • Attends and participates in meetings and trainings (i.e. Home Visitor/Supervisor consults, KidsFirst meeting, FWOT meeting, Settlement and Family Community Services Unit meeting, ).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Offering guidance and support for home visitors and their KF families with RODS settlement service providers to meet their settlement needs, such as vaccination/immunization services, dental hygiene programs, etc.
  • Maintains updated files and documentation on individual children following program protocol, and maintains documentation according to program standards.
  • Demonstrate mutual trust and respect for all team members at all Work collaboratively and cooperatively with all team members to better meet the needs of the families
  • Creating and distributing KF brochures and websites to inform newcomers about KF and how to access the program
  • Utilizing the KF and partner websites to inform newcomers about the KF program
  • Help connect and refer newcomer families from other KidsFirst agencies to RODS Settlement services to meet their settlement needs
  • Maintain current CPR/First Aid Safety certification
  • Practices "zero-tolerance" for violence in the workplace
  • Assisting and securing interpreters to attend IDA assessment meetings with KidsFirst and act as a bridge for assessors if needed
  • Help connect and refer pregnant newcomers from other KidsFirst agencies to RODS settlement services to meet their settlement needs
  • Introduce the KF program and complete referral forms with walk-in newcomer families who are pregnant or have a child under two years of age and accessing RODS services
  • Offering early awareness and enrollment of newcomer families to the KF program, thus connecting them to family-friendly activities in the community (i.e., The Regina Early Years Family Resource Centers and Play YQR program and other appropriate programs in the community like HIPPY, ECIP, etc.)
  • Provide services in a respectful and confidential manner. Maintains professional level of confidentiality in regards to children, families, and Relevant information will be discussed with the Home Visiting Supervisor, Team Leader and/or Executive Director
  • Working with community interpretation program (i.e., RODS Translation and Interpretation Program (TIP)
  • Learns and complies with RODS and KidsFirst protocols, standards, and procedures (i.e. Child Protection Protocol, Taxi/Nutrition Vouchers, Critical Incident, Home Visiting Safety, etc.)
  • Coordinating a warm handover between newcomer families and IDA assessor and/or home visitors to create a more comfortable environment for families


Required Qualifications/education


This position requires a completion of a relevant secondary education certificate/diploma in Child Development, Human Services and/or a minimum of 2 years related experience is preferred. Also, the successful applicant will be required to have completed a valid Class 5-Novice 2 driver's license, access to an insured vehicle and provide a clean Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and clean


Driver's Abstract. Prior KidsFirst training (i.e., Growing Great Kids) and ability to speak other languages is an asset.


Regular hours of work are Monday -Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm. However, this position will be required to work outside of regular working hours when needed. There is a cost-shared benefits package and a 3% employer contribution to the Saskatchewan Pension Plan available to the employee


with the successful completion of a six-month probationary period. The annual salary for this position is


$41551.71($23.67 per hour).
