Position Title: Youth Worker-Internal/External Closing date: August 10, 2023


The Regina Open Door Society (RODS) is a non-profit organization that provides settlement and integration services to refugees and immigrants in Regina. RODS is committed to meeting the needs of newcomers by offering programs and services that enable them to achieve their goals and participate fully in the larger community.


The Regina Open Door Society Inc. is seeking qualified individual staff for the full-time permanent position of Youth Worker. The start date for this position is August 28, 2023.


The Youth Program assists newcomer youth to become familiar with their community and establish supportive social networks. The aim of the program is to help newcomer youth become thriving members of their community.


Desired Qualifications/education


  • Strong commitment to providing quality services working in an intercultural environment.
  • Event planning and organizing skills.
  • Ability to prioritize duties, ability to perform a variety of diverse tasks.
  • Extensive evening and weekend work required.
  • Ability to document and compile reports in an accurate manner.
  • Experience with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet usage
  • Proficiency in both official languages is an asset.
  • Fluency in Ukranian languages is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education, preferably degree or diploma in the area of Social Sciences or Youth Development, Community Development, however previous work experience will be considered.
  • 2 to 3 Years of experience working with at-risk youth
  • Facilitation skills required: development and delivery of information, orientation, and workshops.

Detailed


  • Creatively plan, organize and evaluate activities .
  • In partnership with the Volunteer Support Worker, Youth Worker will do volunteer scernning (i.e. reference check, draft letters for criminal record checks) and maintaining the volunteer database.
  • Promotes and markets youth programming through community partners such as SWIS Workers (Settlement Workers in Schools), EAL teachers, and other community agencies working with youth and young adults.
  • Build a relationship with existing immigrant /refugee youth, families and their community .
  • Prepare and submit program reports i.e. monthly/annual, financial, bulk uploads, meeting minutes etc
  • Organizes and deliver youth leadership and bridging programs
  • Learn about RODS and other programs, services and resources for youth and families for referral .
  • Organizes and delivers Youth Summer and after school Programs
  • Other duties assigned.
  • Work in collaboration with community organizations to provide programs and services for newcomer youth .
  • Provide information and orientation to newcomer youth and their families.
  • Provide referral to programs and services in the community .
  • Provide workshops or work with other agencies to provide workshops on racism, bullying, conflict resolution, leadership, public speaking and others.
  • Match newcomer youth with mentors .


Competencies


  • Understanding of Canada and Saskatchewan Privacy Policies and education system
  • Work experience in a client-orientated position or related field targeting immigrant and refugee youth and families
  • The ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural and team environment.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills are essential
  • Solid paraprofessional counselling and group facilitation skills. Familiar with the casework process, including intake procedures, needs assessment, goal planning, referrals, case management, documentation and follow-ups.
  • Knowledge of settlement-related issues facing immigrants and refugee youth, children and families
  • Good verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Broad knowledge of local community resources that can assist newcomer youth , children and families with their settlement needs
  • Excellent interpersonal, skills


Hours of work : Monday to Friday 8:15 AM to 4:00 PM . This position will be required to work evenings and weekends to facilitate program activities. All positions at RODS require a clean criminal check. There is a cost-shared benefits package and a 3% employer contribution to the


Saskatchewan Pension Plan available to the employee with successful completion of a six-month probationary period. The annual salary for this position is $ 40,937.65 ($23.32 per hour).
