Job Description

We're growing and looking for an energetic, forward thinking, process oriented team member for our Purchasing group!**

The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for the preparation and issuance of purchase orders for consumable materials/products from suppliers at the lowest cost, consistent with considerations for quality, reliability of source, and urgency of need. Will assist in generating and documenting cost savings through supplier negotiations/development and process improvements.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Obtain price quotations from catalogues and suppliers
  • Ensure proper labelling of chemicals in coordination with Quality policies
  • Prepare purchase orders and coordinate timely receipts in ERP system (Sage)
  • Develop and maintain min/max inventory levels for consumables
  • Identify cost saving opportunities through 3rd party vendor management
  • Proactively identify supply risks affecting the production plan
  • Support the resolution of invoicing discrepancies
  • Develop and maintain re-order points
  • Perform weekly cycle counts and identify consumption trends
  • Monitor special project expenditures and ensure payment schedules are met
  • Maintain vendor lead times and minimum order quantities

Knowledge & Skills

  • Able to recognize, analyze, and offer solutions to problems or involve the necessary people to ensure the problem is properly resolved
  • Able to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing
  • Proficient with inventory management software and other industry standard software and with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Able to work collaboratively with other employees and departments to support production requirements
  • General understanding of Supply Chain Management best practices and requirements
  • Able to acquire detailed knowledge of specific customers, suppliers, products, product lines and shipping requirements and maintain the information in ERP system and Excel
  • Able to adjust priorities on short notice in order to meet time sensitive requirements

Experience & Education

  • 1+ years of experience in a purchasing role or recent supply chain graduate
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience with ERP systems (Sage experience is an asset)
  • University degree or college diploma in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or similar preferred
