In-Home Support Program
Casual/On-call Hours
The In-Home Support Worker provides in-home support services to families experiencing cross cultural parenting related issues. Referrals for this program are received through Children’s Services and from within the community.
Duties And Responsibilities

• Conduct evaluations and screenings using the identified tools
• Ensure all client data is entered in CMS in a timely manner and is maintained with full accountability
• Intake and needs assessments of clients as required
• Maintain regular communication with supervisor at CIWA
• Make appropriate referrals to different community resources as required
• Communicate with Children’s Services staff (as needed)
• Provide orientation and information in line with the goal planned
• Address issues related to cross cultural parenting
• Submit time sheets and travel claims as expected
• Attend and participate in CIWA events
• Raise awareness of parents and help them clarify values in a new culture
• Submit reports regularly based on the program requirements
• Other duties as assigned by the Family Services Manager including requests for additional paid hours on a temporary basis when needed
• Attend and participate in trainings based on the program requirements

• Demonstrate a high level of administrative and IT capacity
• Maintain confidentiality at all times
• Maintain a positive image and professional work habits and represent CIWA in a professional manner
• Ensure that professional approach is aligned with CIWA values
• Demonstrate a high level of initiative and enthusiasm
• Maintain a positive working relationship with all staff and volunteers of CIWA

Qualifications

• A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is required
• Appreciation and knowledge of cultural diversity/experience working with an immigrant population
• Knowledge of cross-cultural parenting issues
• Must have a minimum of two years of experience and demonstrated proficiency as a home visitor
• A university degree or diploma in human services, social work, psychology, or education
• Computer and database skills
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and ability to work in a team environment are essential
• Must demonstrate time management abilities and have proven counselling, problem solving and decision-making skills
• Second language is required
• Certification as a Child and Youth Care worker OR being enrolled in a related education program is required
• Must have or be willing to take the following trainings: 1) First Aid/CPR Training 2) Self-Harm Awareness Training 3)Suicide Awareness or Intervention Training 4) Crisis De-Escalation Training 5) Diversity or Cross-Cultural Training 6) Indigenous Awareness Training 6) Trauma Informed Practice Training 7)Abuse Protocol Training
