The Opportunity


We are currently seeking THREE Human Resources Business Partners (HRBP) to join our Ontario Operations HR team or our North Atlantic Operations HR team. These positions will be based in Sudbury and are all permanent opportunities.


In this role, you will provide strategic guidance and offer creative solutions to leadership on all HR related matters including but not limited to employee and labour relations (LR), career and succession planning, performance management, grievance management, compensation, recruitment amongst others. You will be focused on equipping leaders with the required tools and training materials to strengthen employee relationships and foster employee engagement and inclusion. You will also actively facilitate various change management initiatives, participate in various joint committees and/or HR special projects as required and be an integral member of the leadership team at within your assigned client group, playing a key role in Vale’s cultural transformation at the site. Client group may consist of a plant or mine within the Sudbury area or one of the North Atlantic wide groups.


Additionally, in this position you will:


  • Lead the plant specific grievance administration process including arbitration case management and conduct quality workplace investigations.
  • Support Vale’s Production System leadership dimension including behaviour and commitment of leadership, people management, training, and organizational design.
  • Coordinate and deliver HR training materials, including facilitating HR/LR related training to new supervisors.
  • Site focal point for all leadership development programs.
  • Provide advice on compliance with applicable legislation such as the OHSA, Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Code, AODA, and/or Vale specific policies.
  • Support implementation of human resources processes including the annual people development cycle, salary planning and coordinate the annual headcount budget cycle.
  • Support workforce planning initiatives including next generation programs, movement of talent within our organization and conducting exit interviews.
  • Provide expert labour relations advice regarding the application of Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Provide strategic HR advice to support the group in achieving the organizational goals and mitigate people related risks.
  • Efficiently plan and execute people initiatives that contributes to area performance and delivers business value while supporting the development of Vale’s expected key behaviors, diversity and inclusion, and safety goals.
  • Develop care for our people and champion personal and career wellbeing.
  • Support employee development by assisting with performance management tools including individual development programs, performance improvement plans and corrective action.


About You


Education:


  • CHRL designation preferred (or working towards this).
  • Human Resources Management – Graduate Certificate preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Labour Studies, Human Resources or a related discipline.


Experience:


  • Although previous experience in a mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences – and that is what makes us great!
  • Experience working in a unionized workplace providing labour relations support is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related Human Resources generalist function with increasing responsibility.


Skills:


  • Strong time management and organizations skills to plan, and achieve results safely while managing competing and changing priorities
  • Be a change agent with proven conflict resolution skills
  • Flexibility to work at any of our Sudbury Operation plant, mine facilities or central operating facility as required
  • Communicate effectively with employees and leaders at all levels of our organization
  • Be client focused and act as an impartial resource for all employees to access services and support that they need
  • Leverage strong interpersonal skills to foster and maintain successful and influential relationships
