POSITION: Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP)

Accountability Statement


The HRBP is a highly influential role that contributes to the organization in delivering both strategic and operational Human Resources (HR) outcomes to support business strategy. Working within a team of HR professionals, the HRBP will serve as the HR functional lead for the Northlander project to support the preparation and launch elements related to HR including: policy development, workforce planning, forecasting, leading talent sourcing and acquisition strategies and labour relations issues. The HRBP will partner with division leaders and project leadership teams to assess any HR needs, participate in planning, provide updates and ensure that HR remains a primary and proactive stakeholder. The HRBP will ensure best practices and compliance with established legislation, demonstrating leadership in developing strategies to successfully attract, develop, motivate, and retain staff in support of Ontario Northland business needs.


Major Duties/ Responsibilities


  • Travel will be required
  • Lead the development of the talent acquisition and sourcing strategy for successful program implementation and operational needs
  • Support the company’s diversity initiatives and may maintain records of equal employment opportunities and affirmative action reporting requirements
  • Support any people and policy related inquiries, as required
  • Develop and deliver program onboarding in support an exceptional employee experience
  • Support the workforce resource planning for the program
  • Use appropriate communication channels to provide recommendations on HR related policies, programs, and procedures
  • Partner with the Passenger Rail, Northlander Program team to identify the requirements, timelines and priorities to assist in developing effective standards of practice, policies and programs to best support operational and employee needs
  • Collaborate with HR team in day to day operational functions, including Compensation, Benefits, Performance Management and Employee & Labour Relations
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications team and participate in community events to promote ONTC and the return of Northlander Passenger Rail. Includes career fairs and ONTC hosted events.
  • Attend planning meetings to assist and facilitate any policy and people programming required in the planning and implementation stages of the Northlander program


REQUIREMENTS:
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive human resources experience, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Openness to perform other duties to support the HR team
  • Valid G driver’s license and ability to travel when required
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources or related field or equivalent professional experience
  • Positive and solution-focused attitude, calm, composed, self-aware and collaborative
  • Ability to exercise appropriate levels of discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to effectively communicate with different levels across the organization
  • Foundational knowledge of compensation and benefits
  • Proven ability to lead collaboratively, creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
  • Understanding of core Human Resources practices/programs to provide an integrated approach to learning, development and HR related management programs, such as change, talent and succession;
  • Self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple and competing priorities simultaneously
  • Understanding of Federal and Provincial legislation pertaining to employment related matters, employment contracts and compliance requirements
  • Professional certification in Human Resources Management (CHRP/CHRL/CHRE)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Ability to support employees and leaders remotely as needed
