WHAT'S THE JOB?

Reporting to the Vice President - HR Operations, the Director, Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) acts as a strategic partner and internal subject matter expert to ensure human resource strategies align to the goals and objectives of the division and company.

Responsible for providing value-added HR business consulting, this role drives organizational initiatives to enhance talent experience and practices. The role also contributes to the overall HR strategy by collaborating with the HR Subject Matter Experts (SME) to ensure alignment of HR objectives and programs with divisional business imperatives. The HRBP develops and implements strategies and programs aligned with High Performance Organization characteristics designed to ensure the capability for top performance.

The HRBP performs some or all of the following duties:

  • Supports business through HR bid solutions; people strategy /action plans; management of employment risks; mobilization / demobilization plans and client liaison / presentations
  • Advise/guide HR SME’s on critical business issues, workforce implication and potential risks
  • Prepares materials for presentation to various stakeholder groups
  • Utilizes strong relationship management skills, able to positively influence all levels of staff up to senior management level and work effectively in partnership with external bodies and various stakeholder i.e. union representatives
  • Equip and enable leaders to be an effective role model, coach, and mentor to People
  • Guide and influence decisions on Talent Management including integrated workforce plans, succession planning, talent assessments, identifying talent pipelines and individual development plans, learning and development and performance management
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the leaders
  • Adhere to policy procedure and Delegation of Authority controls
  • Provide insight to leaders around organizational restructuring to include workforce optimization
  • Advise/guide leaders on difficult/complex ER matters (harassment, misconduct/fraudulence, discrimination, termination)
  • Acts as a talent scout using networks to help identify, recruit and vet proposed People
  • Provide ongoing HR consulting to leaders on HR programs, practices, policies, legislation and regulatory requirements including interpretation of policy, identification of risk, impact to the business and recommended solutions
  • Comply with audit processes
  • Challenge the status quo in order to continuously add business value
  • Create, lead or support specific HR programs as required
  • Support labour relations activity by consulting on collective agreement negotiations, implementation and on- going maintenance and compliance
  • Maintain awareness of emerging trends and best practices
  • Interpret and analyze data to assist in making appropriate business decisions based on such internal HR metrics and external trends
  • Champion people change initiatives
  • Understand the business strategy; drives divisional business performance through development and delivery of people strategies and solutions
  • Turn ambiguous problems into structured approaches and create change plan
  • Anticipate people-specific needs that drive business strategies forward
  • Contribute to the development of the business goals and strategy as an actively participating member of the divisional senior leadership team.
  • Apply policies and procedures, government legislation and regulatory requirements across various jurisdictions accordingly
  • Guide and coach leaders on effectively managing employee and labour relations matters to include progressive discipline and to consult on effective investigations
  • Coach leaders to maximize and leverage the skills/capabilities of their team members to create an environment of high performance


WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree and Human Resources Professional Designation
  • Intermediate level expertise with Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Strategic thinker, excellent judgement and negotiation/influencing skills
  • Experience in unionized and non-unionized environments
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Business acumen - able to credibly challenge and provide solutions to the business; understands financial management
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive senior HR business partner generalist experience
  • Strong client management skills
  • Experience with sourcing techniques and tools (e.g. social networks), Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and HR databases
  • Strong project management skills
  • Able to build trust – follows through, doesn’t over commit, ensures people feel heard, acts with integrity
