About The Opportunity
T h e HIS Director reports to the Senior Director, IM/IT and oversees a large, diverse NSHA provincial team responsible for strategic and program-level leadership of Health Information Services including, health records management, clinical coding/abstracting, transcription services, data analysis, data reporting, quality assurance and integration of technological solutions. The HIS Director must have a strong understanding and experience of not only the health information management functions, their design, privacy and access management, information management technology but also an intimate understanding for how they correlate to the support and delivery of patient care decision-making processes.
The HIS Director Will
  • Ensure data governance is in place for all systems and tools for internal and external stakeholders, programs, divisions, care teams, service teams and staff enabling the provision of the most comprehensive data through technology for decision making including CIHI data, ICD-10-CA and CCI data, and data available through our various health information applications (e.g. Meditech, STAR, EDIS etc.).
  • Accountable for the continuous assessment, improvement, and coordination of all health information services.
  • Overseeing the management team requires travel to remote locations, in order to support the managers and strengthen a large provincial HIS team.
  • Support the NSHA mission and vision by being a strategic leader in the development, implementation and evaluation of all required health information and technology for decision making.
  • Contribute to the leadership of strategies and operational plans consistent with legislation, accountability frameworks and the mission, vision and values of the organization. The position supports a provincially integrated process and enables realization of business plans through effective information technology enablement in support of effective, efficient and sustainable delivery of services and programs.
  • Establish direction for all hospital and physician coding activities, audits, education and productivity standards to achieve reciprocal billing deadlines.
  • Ensure accurate and timely capture of inpatient and outpatient records according to national, provincial and internal policies and procedures.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Strong understanding of the complexities in the delivery of health care across the continuum of care.
  • Knowledge of the Health Care Industry across the Country in terms of funding formulas and methodologies for capturing mandated and other key performance indicator data.
  • Master’s degree an asset, preferably in a health or leadership field
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years’ progressive senior leadership experience with health information management in an organization of significant size and/or complexity.
  • Knowledge of e-health strategies and its role in information management and technology
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of the CIHI Management Information System (MIS).
  • Thorough knowledge of the ICD-10-CA and CCI coding classification and analysis.
  • Thorough knowledge of the roles within the health care system and the emerging trends in the management of health care delivery.
  • Certified Health Executive and/or Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) designation an asset.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Health Law / Risk Management Course Work and Experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or organizational change management certification an asset.
  • Current registration with the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CHIMA) is required.
  • CCHSA Accreditation knowledge and experience.

  • Permanent Full-time Position; 75 Hours Bi-weekly
Compensation and Incentives
$52.08 - $65.10 Hourly
