Job Description
As a GIS Analyst, you will be responsible for creating, maintaining and supporting GIS data, and best practices that enable the City of Edmonton to analyze information to optimize decisions and performance, to define strategic goals, and to measure and manage performance against those goals.
With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
  • Champion Spatial analysis, best practices, and advanced analytics; help set the future direction for spatial analytics. Develop data solutions and analysis methods for spatial data
  • Additional related duties as required
  • Provide tools and expertise to perform spatial data quality control, including reviewing data for completeness and accuracy, ensuring the integrity of spatial information
  • Represent GIS as a subject matter expert, assist to develop policies, procedures and processes
  • Identify and plan to incorporate additional spatial data sources relevant to business needs
  • Assist governance and information management stakeholders to develop and maintain quality control/assurance mechanisms, business, data, and technical guidelines, processes, standards, and best practices
  • Perform technically complex data maintenance and analytics using one or more tools such as (but not limited to) ArcGIS Pro, FME, AutoCAD, File and Enterprise Geodatabases. Other duties may require basic use of POSSE, task and work management tools, and Google Workspace tools
  • Serve as the key technical and support resource for GIS staff and spatial users within and external to the organization
  • Ensure spatial processes provide accurate and up-to-date information from corporate databases and operational datasets
  • Applicants may be tested
  • A minimum of two (2) years' directly related working experience is required as a GIS Technician/Analyst or equivalent while performing GIS data management, maintenance, spatial analysis, and mapping, quality control, and workflow automation. Experience where GIS was not the primary function will be considered on a proportionally reduced basis
  • Effective communication and time management skills. Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively and persuasively, both orally and in writing
  • University degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, or Geomatics Engineering
  • Develop and improve automated processes through specialized GIS software to efficiently manage spatial data and foster repeatable and reliable spatial analyses
  • Collaborate with Business areas and stakeholders to populate data within the Enterprise Geospatial Database
  • Considerable knowledge, as related to work assignments, of GIS terminology, CAD terminology, GIS and CAD software, POSSE an asset
  • Keep the service information, including metadata creation, standards, and processes up to date
  • Considerable knowledge of departmental, civic and government policies and regulations affecting work assigned

  • Considerable skill in preparing and reviewing project specifications and making recommendations
  • Ability to work well with others, work well under pressure with imminent deadlines
  • Comfort using GIS and CAD software

This position is eligible to participate in the City of Edmonton’s Hybrid Work Arrangement program.
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary: $38.705 - $48.357 (Hourly) ; $68,188.530 - $85,192.940 (Annually)
