Finance Systems – Postgresql Application Integration Specialist

We have an exciting career opportunity for hands-on PostgreSQL Specialist to work within our IT Finance Systems department.
Supporting IFRS17/Fusion and Finance Data delivery roadmaps, and maturing into the de facto target operating model, work is non-routine and highly sophisticated, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills. We are looking for leading contributors, individually and as team members, capable of providing direction and mentoring to others.
To support Aviva Group Finance vision we are building a platform that manages end-to-end Finance data lifecycles and aim to provide a self-service cloud-based experience for the Oracle Fusion SaaS product (using the underlying OCI platform and services) and Process and Reporting and solutions using PostgreSQL, Informatica (BDM) and Qlik.
You are an inquisitive, practical and positive PostgreSQL Database Integration Engineer with a good understanding of Financial data with deep knowledge of PostgreSQL – able to translate compute, ETL storage, networking, database & security into Finance Application solutions. You will be in the forefront of leading the effort to build scalable, fault-tolerant systems in support of our business needs and end customers. To be able to successfully migrate existing legacy systems to new platforms you are going to have demonstrable understanding of Java and JVM mechanics. You will have Financial Services (preferably Insurance industry) knowledge and ideally be comfortable navigating ledgers and operating statements and a fast-paced environment.
What You’ll Do

• Adhere to Agile and development best practices
• Use appropriate ETL tools (listed below) to facilitate efficient data transformation
• Maintain build and release plans for new functionality and enhancements.
• Introduce and familiarize effective software development practices, coding standards and methodologies aimed at controlling costs and delivering quality solutions on a timely basis while building a strong well-motivated development team.
• Maintain reconciliation procedure to facilitate audit trail
• Identify any gaps in the business requirement and assist Business Analyst to rectify the gaps
• Support high level end-to-end architecture design from business requirement for Accounting Engine /Enterprise data warehouse type systems
• Perform analysis and defect and issue triage during project development
• Improve Informatica ETL performance for Accounting Engine and enterprise data warehouse system to shorten batch run completion time. Performance improvement from better table/index design and ETL code design.
• Understand the relationship between data and business outcomes and can focus on long term strategies for data
• Work with subcontractors and Project Managers to ensure completion of agreed activities

What You’ll Bring

• Solid skills in writing SQLS for any of the relational Databases (DB2,MS SQL Server, Oracle DB, Postgres, MySQL)
• Good Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (Agile, Waterfall, Iterative)
• Good communication, teamwork and collaboration skills
• Have experience working on Database migration projects ( DB2 to Postgres or Oracle to Postgres)
• Query optimization, index management, integrity checks, statistics and isolation levels.
• 5 + Years experience working with Unix and able to rewrite Shell scripts as per application logic in Unix/Linux.
• An appetite for problem solving with a creative and resourceful approach to finding the right solution for the job.
• Ability to lead multiple responsibilities with tight deadlines in a fast-paced agile environment
• Ability to evaluate alternative solutions and/or workarounds.
• Able to handle various tasks in a fast paced environment.
• 5 + years of Postgres developer experience
• Experience being a member of a design, development project team crafting Business Intelligence and reporting solutions
• Strong Verbal and written communication and presentation skills
• Hands-on experience on ETL development using Informatica PowerCenter V9.1 and BDM.
• Critical and independent thinking skills
• A proven track record in building and maintaining a reliable, dedication data pipeline that processes a large amount of structured data from various sources.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills

• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities with tight time lines in a fast paced agile environment
• Sophisticated Knowledge of Oracle , DB2, Access Skills
• Experience administering SQL Databases like Oracle SQL, Unix, MySQL
• University Degree in Computer Science/Engineering/IT
• 2+ years of programming experience in Unix Shell Scripting
• Strong Verbal and written communication and presentation skills
• Experience being a member of a design, development project team building Business Intelligence and reporting solutions
• Good Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle(SDLC) (Agile, Waterfall, Iterative)
• Critical and independent thinking skills
• Strong communication and teamwork and collaboration skills
• A deep understanding of SQL and relational database schema design.
• An appetite for problem solving with a creative and resourceful approach to finding the right solution for the job.
• A proven track record in building and maintaining a reliable, dedication data pipeline that processes a large amount of structured data from various sources.
• Solid understanding of Data Warehouse concepts, ETL strategies and best practices.
• Good Experience in Data Modelling Skills
• Ability to write and dissect complex SQL Queries
• 3+ years of experience in a data-driven software engineering environment
• 4+ years of experience in Informatica ETL Development
• Preferred 2+ years of experience in Software Development and/ or Quality Engineering
