Within Anglo American Technical & Sustainability, the Group Discovery and Geosciences (GDG) Team aim to deliver significant value to Anglo American via creation of transformative value through the safe and effective discovery of superior-value mineral, the delivery of a step-change in our operational geoscience effectiveness and maximising value realisation from Anglo American’s portfolio of assets by implementing leading operational geoscience effectiveness.



We are seeking a Finance Specialist to work within GDG in a key support role for the North American Discovery team.


The purpose of this role is to provide essential accounting, financial planning, governance, tax and treasury support in accordance with regulatory requirements and Anglo American policies and procedures, meeting regional, divisional and Group reporting requirements.


This role will be based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Currently there is hybrid work arrangement in place with 3 days a week in the office.


Key role requirements:


Full-Cycle Accounting:


  • Develop, implement, and monitor accounting controls and policies to ensure the integrity of Group and statutory reporting.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in compliance with Group and statutory requirements.
  • Review and validate vendor invoices, general ledger accounts, and employee expense reports.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and government filing requirements, including tax filings and pension plans.


Financial Planning:


  • Prepare intra-Group recharges for relevant GDG - North America business units.
  • Consolidate and analyse monthly and projected annual budgets, providing insights on variances and funding needs.
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor the annual financial plan for GDG - North America.


Cash Management and Funding:


  • Monitor bank account movements and coordinate payment schedules to ensure the availability of funds.
  • Assist with cash call requests to Group Treasury when required.
  • Program Spend Requests:
  • Support the preparation of program spend requests in accordance with regional, divisional, and Group requirements.
  • Administer company credit cards, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.


Business Improvement Initiatives:


  • Lead implementation of business improvement initiatives related to the finance function.


Qualifications


  • Relevant University degree qualification.
  • Recognised professional accounting qualification (CPA or equivalent)


Role-specific Knowledge/Requirements


  • Possess a strong business acumen, commercially astute and comfortable operating in a constantly changing and complex commercial environment.
  • Career experience across a broad range of financial activities and accounting experiences with proven experience in full-cycle accounting, financial planning, and cash management.
  • Proficient in financial analysis and budgeting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant financial software. Experience with Sage and/or SAP is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience implementing process improvement initiatives and technologies is desirable.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian Provincial and Federal statutory reporting requirements and tax regulations.
