Job Description
The Opportunity:


Canadian Natural is looking for highly a motivated Field Facility Engineer for our Kirby SAGD Operations team. You will be working with a dynamic group of professionals in the Operations, Maintenance and multi-disciplined Engineering teams to optimize existing and new facilities. As a frontline leader you will be at the forefront of identifying, developing and executing projects to enhance production, reduce costs, improve safety & reliability, improve energy efficiency, while feeding into our corporate goal to reach “Net-Zero GHG Emissions by 2050”.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Develop MOC packages to implement equipment and process optimization projects. This may include all phases of the project from developing and approving design, sizing of equipment, cost estimating, economics and managing construction and cost control through to project completion
  • Provide leadership through ownership with direct hands on involvement in the start-up and commissioning of new projects
  • Assist with scoping, design and implementation of larger Capital projects that are coordinated by our Calgary Project Engineering teams
  • Challenging status-quo and coming up with new creative means of improving plant efficiencies and thereby reducing cost structures
  • Promote facility project innovation by working closely with the Operations and site technical staff to identify, develop and execute projects to increase plant safety, reliability, throughput and uptime
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational/mechanical issues by facilitating root cause analysis, and championing the execution of the corrective actions
  • Ensure all existing facilities and new construction projects comply with applicable standards, directives, and regulatory requirements (ABSA, ASME, AER, OH&S etc)

  • Job location: Kirby Thermal Oil Sands, Alberta (camp based position)

  • Shift schedule: 4x3 – Monday to Thursday, 10-hr days Eligible for relocation to the Lac La Biche, Alberta area or Company sponsored Fly-In/Fly-Out with hubs from Calgary or Edmonton
  • This is a safety sensitive position


Skills & Qualifications:


  • Strong organizational skills: attention to detail while managing several projects concurrently
  • Familiarity with and understanding of Thermal facilities (oil treating, water treating, steam generation, pads and pipelines)
  • Experience with Management of Change (MOC) processes and Process Hazard Analysis methodology
  • Typically 5+ years of experience in an industrial setting with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Professional Engineer or eligibility for P.Eng registration with APEGA. Consideration will be given to EIT experience level candidates.
  • Proficiency in Engineering software applications
