Safety is the Core Value of Stelco, and the individual will make Safety the #1 priority in the execution of all work activities, including monitoring contractor/vendor safety in support of work efforts.
This role will include leading projects and tasks that contribute to the facility’s compliance with environmental regulations, and continuous improvement in environmental performance.
This position reports to the Environmental Manager at Lake Erie Works.
Job Responsibilities
· Assist with on-going implementation of Stelco’s Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO 14001.
· Lead report writing and submissions - as required by federal/provincial/municipal environmental requirements, and Stelco internal plant reports as may be required.
· Work with and provide support to plant staff to ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations.
· Prepare and submit environmental compliance approval applications.
· Develop and implement source reduction and environmental control solution to improve performance and meet new requirements.
· Manage and direct contracted service companies working on environmental projects.
· Support the Environmental Manager, in liaising with government officials such as the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), and municipal government, from time to time.
· Support the Environmental Manager, in liaising with local stakeholders including neighbours and the Nanticoke Environment Committee, as may be required, from time to time.
· Practice the requirements of the Stelco safety program to ensure a safe work environment.
· Provide support to the Manager – Environmental Affairs, as required.
Job Qualifications
· Degree or diploma in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
· Familiarity with current, relevant environmental regulations
· Minimum of five years of relevant work experience
· Previous work experience in the manufacturing sector is an asset
A valid Ontario Drivers license and vehicle is required.

Working Conditions
· Fast-paced manufacturing environment for a high impact team
· Working in the office/plant versus remotely in accordance with Stelco’s policy
· On-call at times
· The job is within a heavy industrial environment, and you may be required to work within various areas of the facility.
· Safety is our highest priority, and safety procedures and guidelines must always be adhered to. This includes wearing personal protective equipment, such as a hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, respirators, always flame-retardant clothing, and safety shoes with metatarsal protection during a work shift
· Our Lake Erie Works facility operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
· The position requires you to work overtime as may be needed
