The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services & Sustainability, the Supervisor, Environmental Services & Sustainability is responsible for facilitating the day-to-day operations of Environmental Services, as well as ensuring a clean, safe environment is maintained for patients, staff and visitors. The Supervisor collaborates with the Manager in the planning and development of standardized practices and initiatives to ensure they are operationalized. The Supervisor also collaborates with the Manager to ensure stakeholder satisfaction is being met. The Supervisor will assist in ensuring for a healthier environment by reducing our carbon footprint and going “green” as well as having a continued focus on continuous improvement for achieving portfolio objectives.
The Supervisor provides direct supervision of the Environmental Services Workers. They are responsible to complete reports, documentation and required monthly audits. They have strong interpersonal and communication skills fostering a positive work environment and the ability to develop and maintain good relationships with all levels of staff and client. The Supervisor must assess and anticipate problems/issues in relation to services provided, as well as make proper and prompt decisions and take action when required.
Hours of Work
75.0 hours biweekly; shift work may be required. Available on-call
Your Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills consistent with IWK’s mission, vision and values and the ability to motivate and engage others to achieve desired outcomes
  • Able to adapt and be flexible while meeting multiple demands and priorities of a challenging position and workload
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining databases an asset
  • 2 years supervisory experience is required
  • Experience working within a unionized environment an asset
  • Experience with Occupational Health and Safety principles and WHMIS required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications including MS Office products required
  • Commits to professional development and lifelong learning for self and others
  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Demonstrated maturity in dealing with people under stress
  • Experience within a health care setting preferred
  • Self-motivated, flexible and has the ability to work independently, with strong ethical standards
  • Demonstrated experience in the theories and principles of cleaning methods, practices and techniques required
  • Strong planning, organization, and prioritization skills with demonstrated evidence of critical thinking, problem solving and analytical processing ability
  • Competencies in other languages an asset
