Description:

We are offering an opportunity for an Electrical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our substation engineering team in an entry-level position. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for supporting our team of Professional Engineers in the design and development of high-voltage electrical systems. This will involve various tasks such as creating models, conducting power system studies, drafting detailed procurement specifications, preparing single and three-line drawings, schematics, and assisting with field commissioning. You will be working closely with a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) who will provide direct supervision and guidance.

The job position will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Assisting the engineering teams with drafting and CAD updates;
  • Modeling power systems in Etap (or similar simulation software);
  • Preparing electrical equipment specifications and Contractor installation scopes of work;
  • Working within a project team of engineers and designers;
  • Reviewing vendor approval drawings and evaluating major equipment bids;
  • Preparing and issuing drawing packages;
  • Completing Protection Coordination settings;
  • Drafting detailed procurement specifications for electrical equipment;
  • Completing FEED studies (Design Basis, schedules, cost estimates);
  • Conducting field site inspections and completing field reports;
  • Performing peer reviews and supporting fellow engineers (P.Eng);
  • Issuing formal bid packages and managing clarifications during bidding;
  • Drafting relay logic drawings;
  • Assisting with project development, scope, and budget;
  • Participating in meetings with clients, utilities, and other stakeholders;
  • Completing protection relays settings (incl. logic);
  • Completing bid spreads and making formal recommendations of award;
  • Developing single-line and three-line drawings of power systems;
  • Any other similar tasks as may be required from time-to-time.
  • Receiving and directing Requests for Information (RFIs) between Contractors and engineers;
  • Preparing, reviewing, and completing drawing mark-ups; and
  • Assisting with project planning, resource allocation, and scheduling;
  • Developing AC and DC schematics for Protection & Control systems;
  • Completing Load Flow and Short Circuit studies;

Candidate:

The ideal candidate would have the following:

  • Previous industrial or electrical experience would be an asset, but not a required.
  • Good understanding of power systems, including high, medium, and low voltage systems;
  • Be able to work as part of a team and be able to complete tasks independently;
  • Familiar with Etap, SKM, Easy Power or equivalent modelling software;
  • Knowledge or experience in electrical schematics, power flow, single line and three-line diagrams; protection and control, and wiring loop sheets would be an asset, but not required.
  • Completed an electrical engineering program with a power background;
  • Excellent written and oral language and communication skills;
  • Familiar with Canadian Electrical Code and relevant CSA, ANSI/IEEE standards;
  • Competent with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and Microsoft Projects;

The successful candidate will be supplied with a computer workstation, complete with the appropriate software and applications necessary to do the job. This position would be for an immediate start. The standard work week would be 40 hours, with the hours of work flexible and based on an 8-hour day. This role is a hybrid office / work-from-home position, with the expectation that a minimum of three days in the office.

This position requires that the successful candidate is legally permitted to work in Canada and is eligible for registration with their professional association (ie. APEGA and/or EGBC).
