Job Description

Advancing People, Environment, and Business. Does that statement resonate with you? Do you enjoy working with an engaged team toward a common goal? Do you regularly question the norm and come up with creative solutions to problems? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, we might have the perfect role for you!

PGL Environmental Consultants (PGL) is seeking an Entry/Junior Environmental Consultant specializing in Environmental Monitoring. The employee can be based out of either of our two Lower Mainland BC locations: Vancouver or Langley. PGL employees work a 37.5-hour work week and have the flexibility to work part-time from home or out of either office.

This role will be part of our Environmental Planning Group, which is an established, experienced group of mostly long-tenured professionals servicing our diverse clients in a variety of sectors (e.g., urban and resource development, Indigenous groups, government, etc.). The role will be involved with the planning and execution of projects at an entry/junior level. Projects will vary and include compliance/environmental monitoring, field surveys, fish/amphibian salvage, data collection, environmental permitting, and reporting. Under the supervision of senior professionals and technical experts, this role will work within a project team that may include our clients, regulators, and stakeholders to plan and coordinate the completion of environmental projects to meet our clients’ needs.

Responsibilities:

· Working with project teams and our clients to deliver work according to budgets and timelines to meet project objectives and regulatory requirements.

· Environmental monitoring, including water quality sampling, construction supervision, and liaising with site personnel, clients, and regulatory agencies.

· Participating in field investigations and data collection, as required, including fish, wildlife, and vegetation assessments and/or salvage.

· Involvement in a variety of phases of project work including fieldwork, environmental permitting, data compilation, data analysis, and reporting.

· Contributing to the continual improvement of our internal policies and practices.

· Progressive growth as a consultant and professional, such as advancement of business development, writing, and project management skills.

· Contributing to the growth of our PGL community.

We are looking for a self-starter. You will be expected to work both independently and within project teams, undertaking tasks from start to finish with full team support. Hands-on fieldwork will be mixed with desktop activities and contribution to, or preparation of, reports.

You are our ideal candidate if you:

· Have a natural curiosity for the environment;

· Are willing to invest in yourself and grow your knowledge and skills;

· Are a resourceful problem solver and organized individual;

· Can identify root causes and interlinkages in complex systems—using your own expertise to address what you can and connecting with the right resources to address what you cannot.

You will be expected to communicate with site personnel and deliver recommendations. As your career develops, project management, business development, and client contact will become an important component of your role. We are seeking candidates who identify with the term “professional teammate.”

Job Requirements:

· Undergraduate degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.

· 0 to 3 years of industry or consulting experience (preferred but not required), with training in erosion and sediment control and/or environmental monitoring.

· Eligible or in the process of becoming eligible for professional registration (i.e., B.I.T., R.P.Bio., R.B.Tech., or equivalent).

· Basic consulting skills: time management, teamwork, client service, communicating technical information in an understandable way (verbal and written), multi-tasking, and people skills.

· Working knowledge of and ability to interpret municipal (Metro Vancouver), provincial (BC), and federal (Canada) environmental regulations, guidelines, and standards.

· Enjoys the outdoors and able to handle everything that mother nature throws at you.

· Excellent problem-solving skills.

· Knowledge of local flora and fauna is an asset.

· Results driven but lighthearted and fun.

· Electrofishing certification (crew or leader) (preferred).

· Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office suite products.

· Valid driver’s license.

If you are looking to join a great team that values creativity, collaboration, and employee engagement, please apply online (http://www.pggroup.com/join_team.htm). This job posting will be open until Monday, August 21, 2023. All successful applicants will be contacted via e‑mail the week of August 21, 2023, with interviews starting shortly after. The successful applicant will ideally start mid-September.
