Job Description

Okay, here’s the deal. Are you looking for the most engaging, fun and adventurous workplace in the Southern Interior? Are you looking to work for a company where dreams come true (kinda like Disneyland without the rides and more forests)? Are you looking for truly meaningful work that provides you fair compensation and unlimited upward mobility? Do you want to learn about innovative forestry practices such as enhanced forest resource inventories and remote sensing. If this strikes a chord with your inner being, then look no further – Cabin is the company for you.

We are looking for an amazingly awesome Junior Forest Professional (either RFT or RPF) to come and join our South Okanagan crew. You would be based out of K-town, but West Kelowna or Lake Country could be home as well. We do have some basic mandatory requirements (see below) but the overarching theme is one of alignment with Cabin’s Vision and core values (see website) and a passion for the practice of forestry. If you have this, then apply to the job, you won’t regret it.

A few notes about us if you have not heard already. We have been in operation for over 27 years in BC, starting out in forestry, now branching out into environmental operations, wildfire management and recreation solutions. We have a solid, competent team of mentors to assist with professional development that combined have well over a century of practice in the Okanagan and surrounding areas. These experienced professionals will directly mentor you as you grow and learn.

Responsibilities:

As a Junior Forest Professional you will be responsible for the following:

  • Ensuring legal, regulatory and client specific requirements are met
  • Block and Road Site Plans and Harvest Plans
  • Data management and quality control/assurance in the field and office
  • Supervision and training of field crew members
  • Multiphase layout, development and planning of conventional cable road and harvest systems

What we are looking for:

  • Experience or familiarity utilizing LiDAR data and ESRI platforms for planning harvest and road systems
  • 3+ years of experience with road and cutblock layout, timber reconnaissance and field crew supervision (want to stress that this is a must have)
  • Previous experience with heat exhaustion, excessive bugs, inclement weather of all kinds and upping crew morale while you, yourself are physically challenged
  • Experience in cable layout and analysis, road design, SP data collection, Site Plan and Harvest Plan drafting, riparian assessments, forest health, surveys and wildfire management
  • A commitment to, and track record of, innovation, respect and success
  • Oh yeah, and you have to be registered with the FPBC as RPF or RFT
  • Adaptability and self-awareness
  • An understanding of forest policy, regulations and guidelines
  • A love for adventure and the great outdoors

What we offer, in addition to the promises above:

  • Kick-ass culture that respects all peoples inclusive of our LGBTQ2+ friends
  • Per diem for out-of-town shifts and extended medical and dental and RRSP contributions (that start after year one)
  • $$ (an important consideration) - competitive wage (salary or hourly), signin bonus, biannual profit share (based on experience, competency and length o service), gear allowance, training and professional development allowance and health and wellness account
  • A business strategy that is realizes practical, and tangible Truth and Reconciliation with our local Indigenous Communities
  • A super flexible, hybrid work schedule
  • Flexible holidays and 20 cm snow rule for winter shredding
  • Flex Fridays – during field season, we take every other Friday off
  • A super-duper fun, positive, dynamic and inclusive workplace with lots of allies
