Job Description

SLACAN Industries Inc. is Canada's largest designer and manufacturer of Poleline Hardware, which includes a full line of Transmission and Distribution products. We service the OEM market including the agricultural, mining and other industries. Our in-house processes include forgings, hot / cold stampings and weldments.

Position Summary

  • To perform engineering analysis, calculations and detail design of new and existing products.
  • To interface with suppliers and customers as required.
  • To manage technical projects including new product design, process analysis, tooling & equipment reviews, and technical data analysis.
  • To review and verify work of others within the Engineering department under the direction of the Manager.


Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for detail design and development of products and processes within defined objectives.
  • Responsible for managing technical projects to completion in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Review and approve work by others in the technical team under the direction of the Product Engineering Manager.
  • Create and maintain bills of materials, shop routings and Slacan design files including specs, drawings, etc
  • Technical support for customers, suppliers and other departments.
  • Performing calculations and layouts required to achieve final design drawings.
  • Maintenance of existing product designs including reviews for improvements or cost reductions.
  • Provide cost estimates to Sales as required.


Knowledge and Experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Practical experience of product application with respect to fit / form / function evaluations and safety assessments.
  • Experience managing technical projects from concept to production.
  • Experience with mechanical testing equipment, methods and knowledge of ISO9001 Quality System.
  • Experience in building cost estimates for manufactured products.
  • Experience with, and ability to read technical specifications, industry standards and manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience in mechanical design of products, materials properties and selection, stress analysis.
  • Experience with various manufacturing processes, their advantages and limitations including hot work, stamping, machining, heat treatment and finishing.
  • 5-10 years of engineering experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Production of accurate, clear detail and assembly drawings using AutoCAD & SolidWorks in compliance with drafting standards.
  • Engineering degree (Professional Engineer Ontario designation considered an asset).
  • Experience working within a technical team and providing guidance to junior staff.
