Engineering Intern – Process Development (Coop Opportunity)

Cad Rail has other facilities in Calgary, and Lethbridge (under the Caltrax banner) and has recently been selected by the ONxpress Transportation Partners association to provide all legacy fleet maintenance services for the Metrolinx rail fleet of approximately 1000 bi-level coaches and 90 locomotives. Cad rail’s delivery team will operate and maintain Metrolinx’s rail maintenance facilities in Etobicoke and Whitby, as well as in multiple overnight along with mid-day light servicing facilities located across the Metrolinx train service area.

Summary of the role:

We are seeking an Engineering Intern with a passion for process development/improvement to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with our engineering team to analyze our current processes and data collection to create flowcharts to represent those processes using MS Visio, and create reports based on information collected in OneNote to identify opportunities for improvement. You will then work with the team to develop and implement new processes and write reports based on your analysis and findings. This is a great opportunity for an aspiring engineer to gain valuable experience and build a strong foundation for a successful career in process improvement.

Core Accountabilities:

• Work with cross-functional teams to implement new processes and ensure their success.
• Document and communicate process changes and improvements using MS Office tools.
• Review data collection in OneNote and create summary reports based on analysis and findings
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of new processes and make adjustments as needed.
• Identify opportunities for improvement and develop new processes based on your analysis.
• Participate in meetings and presentations to share project progress and results.
• Analyze our current processes and create flowcharts to represent them using MS Visio.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a degree in engineering or a related field.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
• Strong technical skills with proficiency in MS Visio and other MS Office tools.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work.
• Experience creating flowcharts and process maps using MS Visio.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to work.
