Position Overview

Kiewit is expanding its new design team specializing in Hydropower, Dams and Hydraulic Structures (HDH) and is seeking top performing contributors to support and sustain its growth over the coming years. As such, we are currently seeking an Intermediate/Senior Electrical Designer to support the activities of the group (e.g. proposals, ECI mandates, greenfield projects, refurbishments, etc.).

The candidate will work closely with the team’s Engineers and Designers to provide various services to internal groups for the development of HDH projects.

Location

This position will be based out of one of Kiewit's major hub locations across Canada (Laval, QC; Oakville, ON; Burnaby, BC) with travel as business necessitates to project sites and other offices.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the HDH Electrical Discipline Lead and Senior Electrical Engineers:

• Provide design input and advice based on experience and knowledge of industry best practices.
• Mentor and lead junior designers or drafters in their technical development
• Support in the development of the HDH engineering team by building internal tools and processes.
• Support in the preparation and coordination HDH electrical design packages
• Support the electrical systems design for HDH projects in coordination with the existing Kiewit design teams as needed (structural, mechanical, piping etc.)
• Lead the preparation of electrical design deliverables, including drawings, lists and schedules in coordination with electrical engineers.

Qualifications

• Building security, fire detection and telecommunication systems (working knowledge considered an asset).
• Proficiency in 2D CAD software such as Autocad for drawing preparation.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as Revit.
• Control schematics
• General arrangements, section views and detail drawings
• Lighting systems including control.
• Process and Instrumentation (considered an asset).
• Proficiency in the application of the most prominent electrical-related Codes, Norms, Standards and guidelines, most notably ANSI/IEEE and NEC.
• Embedded grounding, cable tray systems and duct banks.
• Proficiency in the preparation of:
• Hardwired control circuits
• Electrical equipment layouts and general arrangements.
• Proficiency with the preparation and review process of design deliverables.
• Registered technologist or equivalent considered.
• Power distribution systems.
• Efficient and proactive with the ability to work independently and prioritize.
• Strong communication and organizational skills. 
• 3-8 years of relevant experience in the design of electrical systems with experience in hydropower considered an asset. The ideal candidate will have experience in the design of:
• Familiarity with the design-build design process, construction/constructability, and typical testing practices.
• Wiring diagrams
• Proficient in English. Proficiency in French is an asset.
• Cable sizing calculations and cable schedules
• Bills of materials
