Electrical Designer Responsibilities

Electrical designers will work with multiple disciplines to accomplish all design & engineering activities. Duties will include:

• Assist in mentoring jr. electrical design and drafting team members
• Production of design drawings considering scope, budget, and schedule.
• Through prescribed techniques and standards, lead design and drawing assignments, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing system components and enhancing sketches
• Review project drawings, plot files and project-related files and documents
• Follow all project design and drafting standards
• Complete electrical project designs (site and facility design schematics, layouts, power systems, lighting systems, protection, controls, etc.)
• Evaluation of designs and redlines or mark-ups for quality assurance
• Under the direction of the engineering team, compute calculations for conduit/grounding layouts, equipment and panel wiring diagrams, and relay panel schematics
• All other duties as assigned
• Responsible for the electrical design QA/QC process
• Incorporate schedules, budgets and project criteria into electrical design and layouts for project financial goals
• Review design codes and specifications
• Approve vendor drawings and documents

Requirements

• Expert knowledge in design, calculations, and design systems
• Work collaboratively with others, including but not limited to clients (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives
• Well-versed in design software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam and Excel. Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs
• Diploma in drafting technology or related field and seven to ten years of related experience
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills
• Eligible to work in Canada
• Expert knowledge in the theory and practices of assigned discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the given discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks
• Work is on-site at our downtown Calgary, AB location
• Expert ability to utilize 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings

Preference is given to those who have experience in the energy industry.
