Job Description
Location: Surrey, BC
The Director of Strategic Innovation will play a critical executive/leadership role within the organization. The Director of Strategic Innovation (DSI) will be responsible for developing and executing a highly strategic, innovative, and collaborative plan to identify and engage critical community stakeholders such as funders, community partners who share a commitment to the ongoing need for evidence-based, culturally sound programs and services to the growing Indigenous population of Surrey and the surrounding areas.
The Director will formulate and oversee the organizational strategy to secure the engagement of stakeholder groups across the province of British Columbia and driving for results that build opportunities for program implementation in local communities. The Director of Strategic Innovation will develop and establish strategic partnerships with external organizations to expand and strengthen the impact and growth.

Key responsibilities for this role include but may not be limited to:
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, management, and organizational skills, including ability to undertake multiple tasks, delegate effectively and motivate the team
  • Taking the lead on expansion of the services into the Fraser Valley where there is a high population of underserved Indigenous community members.
  • Leading the fundraising efforts in close partnership with the leadership team;
  • Five (5) years or more of program managing experience;

  • Play an active role in maintaining and strengthening the management and governance culture and practices that reflects the organization’s core values.
  • Supporting the ED in securing a permanent location for the organization in Surrey to support the growth of the agency through efficient operations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strive to achieve a strategic plan in line with “Priority Areas” as mentioned in our strategic plan 2022-2027.
  • Represent our organization and Executive Director, on relevant committees and task forces, as well as at speaking engagements, conference panels and trainings.
  • Research to identify and serve community with the highest need in Fraser Valley
  • Master’s degree in management as an asset;
  • Spearheading the Strategic Plan.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Management or equivalent work experience in related fields;
  • Timely submission of reports related to Contracts management, funding requirements, etc., meeting the necessary standards.
  • Proven success as a leader in Indigenous Organizations, and ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the challenges relevant to Indigenous people and communities
  • Responsible for signing all cheques, notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization
  • Knowledge about working with a non-profit and an Indigenous organization
  • Meet with stakeholders to secure growth and build capacity.
  • Building our organization’s capacity to move forward with our vision and to support high needs communities. This will support growth and restructuring of our agency leadership to support balance in the work we do.
  • Ensuring stabilization and improvement of existing programs.
  • Networking and building relationships with community & organizations.
  • Approve expenditures, in accordance with approved / agreed budget.
  • Develop a team-based environment to motivate and inspire staff to work collaboratively towards the vision and goal, by clearly communicating agency vision, implementing yearly staff development plans and mentoring.
  • Ensure appropriate external communication by representing and upholding our values and culture in relation to marketing, media, public relations etc.
  • Understanding of, and experience in the non-profit sector in a senior role
  • Actively participate in the Cultural Committee to ensure awareness of proper cultural protocols, practices, etc. and thereby adapting more Indigenous ways in the organization.
  • Developing a needs assessment for space/expansion in Surrey and in the Fraser Valley and, modernizing our systems for development.
  • Securing space & funding for our expansion project.
  • Proven success in multi-party negotiations and arranging partnerships within community as well as government, and corporate sectors.
  • Successfully secure competitive grants through research and development and ensure effective implementation.
  • Understanding of the importance of a high level of discretion and confidentiality within the organization and its clientele and stakeholders
  • Coordinate with the ED to identify and create a decolonization strategies.
  • Criminal records check
  • Five (5) years or more of non-profit experience, preferably within an indigenous organization
  • Manages change and transition challenges, developing procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of our BOD;
  • Procurement of funding
  • Networking in community and finding partners/donors.
  • Researching financing & partnership options for capital assets such as land, building, etc.
  • Working with all stakeholders of the organization, make recommendations to the ED about strategic approaches, collaborations and new programs, capital ventures or opportunities that may help fulfill the mandate of the association.
  • Knowledge of indigenous cultures and lived history
  • Liaise with community stakeholders and build and maintain relationships with local host nations.
