Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing and managing an organization's innovation strategy? Our Innovation Team is looking for a Manager, Innovation to join the team!
Reporting to the Acting Head, Innovation, Strategy and Autonomy, the Manager, Innovation contributes to the development and coordination of Teck’s innovation strategy across multiple corporate groups and operating sites.

At the same time, there is a small central Innovation Team to help develop and manage Teck’s overall innovation strategy. The Manager, Innovation, is a critical member of this team.
The accountabilities below represent the full spectrum of potential activities for this role. Actual assigned accountabilities at any given time will vary.
Responsibilities

• Ensure Teck’s innovation strategy is highly integrated with the core pillars of Teck’s corporate strategy: Copper Growth, Low Carbon Metals, Sustainability and Operational Excellence
• Develop and manage Teck’s internal innovation ecosystem via programs that seek to foster Teck’s culture of innovation by identifying and funding innovative ideas identified by Teck employees
• Portfolio Management: maintain a portfolio view of innovation activities across Teck – the assessments, pilots, investments and other activities that are taking place at every operation and corporate group – to enable assessments and reporting on both the value for money and strategic alignment of those activities with Teck’s corporate strategy
• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Resource Planning & Allocation: identify & monitor key skillsets required to implement innovation work and generate recommendations on how to allocate scarce RD&I resources across the portfolio
• Build and manage Teck’s external innovation ecosystem including partnerships, consortia, and investments

Qualifications

• Experience effectively communicating concepts. both written and verbally, across all levels of the organization, and particularly to senior management, to facilitate effective decision making
• Analytical: able to frame analysis, design models, assess data quality and sufficiency to arrive at conclusions
• Has a bias for action and seeks to move from analysis to action as quickly as possible
• Collaborative and able to work effectively and build relationships with a variety of internal groups including sites, corporate departments, projects, etc
• Proficiency in Spanish is a significant asset for this role
• Advocacy: proven ability and orientation to act as an innovation advocate in both formal and informal settings across an organization
• Effective interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, building consensus, collaborating, networking, influencing, providing, and receiving feedback, team building, and interacting with individuals from both technology organizations and operational sites, at all levels of an organization
• At least 5 years of expertise in the mining industry, ideally involving operational experience in one or more of the commodities that Teck produces or equivalent tenure of experience in a mining corporate innovation or technology function
• Change Agent: experience and understanding in effective change management practices
• Demonstrated initiative and ability to deliver results in ambiguous or constantly evolving environments
