Job Description

Venor is partnering with O’Regan’s Automotive in their search for a Director of IT. Named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies and the Consumer Choice Award winner for New Car Dealer and Pre-Owned Dealer for Halifax for ten years in a row, O’Regan’s is navigating an exciting period of growth and evolution. Now with over 800+ employees with 22 brand partnerships, O’Regan’s is recruiting for a Director of IT who will drive the development and execution of their technology roadmap and lead a high-performing team in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.

As the Director of IT, you will be responsible for overseeing the technological infrastructure of all O’Regan’s dealerships, including hardware, software, network, and security systems. Working as a part of the senior leadership team, the Director of IT will manage a team of IT professionals and work closely with other departments to ensure that technology is being used effectively to meet business needs. You’ll play a key role in IT leadership and the continued success and improvement of O’Regan’s IT Operations while upholding O’Regan’s values of collaboration, teamwork, and respect.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technology trends and innovations, evaluate their potential impact on the organization, and make recommendations to the business
  • Participate in strategic planning as a member of the senior leadership team, specifically contributing to the development of strategies and methodologies to integrate and optimize the strategy, roadmap, and tactics of the organization
  • Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts for hardware, software, and services
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify and implement technology solutions that improve business processes and enhance customer experience
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for IT operations and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Ensure the security and integrity of all technology systems, including data protection, network security, and disaster recovery
  • Oversee resources, staffing, IT budget, and the enhancement/development of a best-in-class team, as well as oversee and actively be accountable for the aggregate performance of the IT department as a whole
  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and upgrade of hardware and software systems, including servers, workstations, and peripherals
  • Collaborate and build relationships with operational staff, the Executive Team, and other internal stakeholders to ensure alignment, understand gaps, and propose strategic improvements to IT
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, including regular performance reviews and feedback

What we are looking for:

  • Experience managing a team of IT professionals and collaborating with other departments
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, related field, or equivalent experience/education
  • Strong technical knowledge of hardware (cloud and on-prem), software, network
  • Infrastructure, and security systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • 15+ years of experience in IT, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in a large IT environment with multiple locations and complex technology systems

What’s in it for you:

Opportunity – in the midst of a digital transformation, O’Regan’s is committed to building robust and resilient IT infrastructure with best-in-class cloud technology.

Innovation – the automotive industry is going through a transformation not seen in ages. From autonomous driving to EVs, the way we travel from place to place is fundamentally changing.

People – one of Canada’s most progressive automotive service organizations, O’Regan’s is one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies with an employee-centric culture.

At Venor and O’Regan’s, we embrace a culture of belonging in the workplace. No matter who you are, where you’re from, how you think, what you believe in, or who you love, we welcome your application. We all come from different backgrounds and different walks of life, bringing in unique perspectives and experiences. We encourage applications from 2SLGBTQ+, Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC), women, newcomers to Canada, and people with disabilities.
