Job Summary


Dalhousie Medical School attracts some of Canada’s top students, physicians, and health researchers. With campuses in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Saint John, New Brunswick, and over 100 teaching sites across the Maritimes, we provide aspiring doctors and health researchers with the highest caliber education. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer ( COO ), Faculty of Medicine, the Director of Finance will be responsible for the planning, management, and reporting of accounting and financial operations for the Faculty. This position is key to ensuring fiscal accountability, and is integral for advising the COO on the financial position of the Faculty and supporting executive decision making.


Key Responsibilities


  • Build and maintain relationships internally and externally on matters relating to medical school finances or other practices and issues of interest.
  • Manage Dean’s Office finance staff, including performance and developmental coaching.
  • Prepare and present various financial analyses and reports to support Faculty level committees, business planning, and decision-making.
  • Develop and oversee financial policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Advise and consult with Department Heads and Administrators to ensure financial roles and responsibilities are defined and carried out.
  • Oversee the Faculty of Medicine budget, including the annual preparation process, quarterly reviews, and regular analysis, projections and reporting.


Note


The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.


Required Qualifications


  • Considerable administrative leadership experience at a senior level within a complex organization.
  • Undergraduate degree in business or other relevant degree, and a financial designation such as a CPA , plus approximately seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Strong relationship management and stakeholder relations expertise and the ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically across and within diverse organizational units.
  • Experience successfully managing a broad range of large administrative units including oversight of complex budgets and significant change projects.
