Known for your strong analytical and communication skills as well as great writing ability, you will play a key role in supporting and guiding the service through advanced analytics.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this position, you will be responsible for supporting Analytics & Innovation with the delivery of analytical support through analysis of crime, traffic, business intelligence and other related information. The Crime Analyst, also referred to as the Divisional Crime Analyst (DCA) will support Divisions directly with weekly Crime, Traffic, and Order Management presentations. Through the Analytics & Innovation Unit, the Crime Analyst will support the Districts and Squads in their tactical and strategic management of police operations through provision of accurate and timely crime analysis, service-wide awareness and reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Crime Analyst, you will:

• Represent the Service at conferences and shares best practices.
• In this position, you will be responsible for regular analysis of crime and disorder issues in a division so that prompt action may be taken.
• Attend regular crime analysis workshops and training sessions.
• Support the Operations Centre tasks on an ongoing and event driven basis with availability for 24-7 shift coverage as needed.
• Present reports and recommend crime management strategies, which may include court testimony.
• Utilize business intelligence, database, geographic information systems, and statistical software to fulfill requests.
• Prepare standard and ad-hoc reports to enhance intelligence-led policing strategies.
• Liaise with internal and external analysts regarding crime trends, persons of interest and enforcement activities.
• Collect, analyze, forecast and disseminate crime or administrative business information at the divisional, district or investigative squad level.
• Utilize advanced statistical modelling including correlation, regression and probability analysis.
• Interprets, evaluates and reports on business intelligence problems and trends including the identification of unusual crime activities, patterns and suspect profiling.
• Utilize various sources of information including records management systems, intelligence and open source to conduct predicative analysis and identify actionable insights.

Education/Experience:

• Have successfully completed Degree/diploma in mathematics, statistical analysis, geography or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Have acquired a minimum of one year demonstrated analytical and research experience.

Skills/Competencies:

• Strong interpersonal skills required with an emphasis on superior teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of the Service.
• Experience in statistical analysis which includes forecasting trends, identifying issues and interpretations required.
• Highly developed time management skills with the ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet tight timelines.
• Excellent computer skills and proficiency in: Geographic Information System (GIS), Structured Query Language (SQL), Statistical software, Microsoft Power BI, ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ESRI ArcGIS Portal, and MS Excel.
• Excellent verbal communications skills combined with exceptional report writing skills.
• Must possess research, analytical and interpretative skills with knowledge of research design and methodologies and practical application of such research.
