Position Title: Coordinator, Shop VLRC (Part-time Permanent)
Location: Winnipeg, MB
Reports To: Manager, Vision Rehabilitation
Rate: $20.55/hour
Date: May 2023
I. Scope And Summary Of Primary Responsibilities
This position oversees the day-to-day operation of the SmartLife Center. This includes opening the store, daily transactions, and monitoring inventory control. This role also demonstrates consumer products and technology to clients and customers while conducting retail sales transactions.
II. Essential Functions
The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:
  • Evaluates new products as required.
  • Monitors inventory for store. Orders necessary inventory from warehouse.
  • Handles incoming calls from clients and the general public regarding products and services.
  • Completes Third party and Blue Cross forms for clients and veterans to request approvals and process disbursement of products.
  • Provides service and advice to clients that are having difficulty with defective products. Includes replacing or sending product to the warehouse for repair.
  • Maintains files regarding store operations and procedures. Keeps accurate and appropriate records of special orders placed through the warehouse. Contacts clients when their order arrives in the store for pick up.
  • Provides information regarding products and services available at the SmartLife Center. Assist clients/customers wishing to purchase products that will aid them in their daily living needs.
  • Demonstrates and provides information and training on the use of various types of technology to the general public and CNIB/VLRC clients.
  • Completes regular deposits and all relevant transactions and forwards them to Accounting.
  • Processes sales and return transactions using Shopify system i.e.: credit card sales, debit card sales, and cash sales.
Relationships
  • Maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Builds relationships with other local SmartLife staff to align workflow appropriately and ensure department goals and objectives are met.
  • Liaison with National SmartLife coaches/staff.
Problem Solving / Time Frame of Impact
  • Utilizes appropriate resources as required to maximize service delivery efficiencies.
  • Monitors inventory to ensure products are in stock.
  • Provide recommendations on improving customer service.
  • Works collaboratively with staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to provide solutions to routine problems utilizing excellent analytical, creativity, and problem solving skills.
  • Responds to customer complaints in a timely manner.
Decision Autonomy
  • Works under the general direction of divisional guidelines and standards but has latitude in making decisions on day-to-day dealings with the public and on store operations.
  • Consults with manager on issues that are more complex or may require upper level approval.
Leadership
  • Collaborates with supervisor to establish plans, goals and coordinate activities to achieve services objectives.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and strong leadership that focuses on total company success.
  • Takes initiative to keep abreast of new trends, and products and integrate into continuous improvement of store layout and function.
  • Facilitates and enhances team efforts on a professional level and shares specialized knowledge, sources, experience, concepts and skills.
  • Ability to function with limited supervision when required.
Requirements
III. Qualifications
Knowledge And Skill Requirements (minimum Required)
  • Good working knowledge of computer applications.
  • Able to train and manage volunteers.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
  • Demonstrates mature and sensitive nature when dealing with the needs of persons experiencing vision loss.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task in an organized manner.
  • Experience with consumer products and technology for blind and partially sighted individuals is an asset.
  • Demonstrated client-centred approach with excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated decision making and judgement.
Experience And Education (minimum Required)
  • Minimum of three years in retail sales.
  • Experience using a point-of-sale system.
  • Community College Diploma in retail sales discipline.
Work Environment (indicate working conditions)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Required to lift/carry equipment up to 20-30lbs
