Job Description

Compensation: $63,722 - $79,653 base salary per annum

Please note: This is a 12 month temporary contract

Servus Credit Union is Alberta's largest credit union and is ranked #1 in Canada on Forbes’ World’s Best Banks list for 2022! Driven by cooperative values, one might even say we're member-obsessed – because helping our members feel good about their money through improved financial fitness builds better lives and stronger, more resilient communities.

Propelled by our aspirational values of being smart, gutsy and driven, Servus is growing, enhancing member and employee experience and shifting to a culture where we can easily deliver our best.

We're looking for top talent to join our Communications team as the Communications Specialist!

As the Communications Specialist your focus is twofold: you help bring the Servus story to life across our digital channels while also helping amplify key brand awareness and marketing initiatives. You have the opportunity to work alongside our Marketing Division by participating in one or more of Servus's Agile Marketing squads.

In fact, your work is the "glue" between Communications and Marketing, ensuring the organization takes an integrated approach to further strengthen awareness of the Servus brand, story and marketing efforts.

Let’s break it down….

Digital Communications:

Working closely alongside the Media and Story Advisor, you are responsible for implementing the corporate aspects of Servus's social media strategy and content plan. This includes developing social media and website content, and conducting and/or overseeing implementation of website and social media postings.

  • Be a thought partner for the Manager in developing and/or executing external communications strategies and plans, particularly in the areas of social media, media relations and public relations
  • Publish and/or oversee internal/external resources that publish social media and website content
  • Develop messaging and write/edit content in alignment with Servus's story program. This may include production of basic visual and video content
  • Provide back-up support for online community management efforts when required
  • Conduct monitoring and analytics reporting for digital communications channels
  • Alongside the Advisor, Media & Story, contribute to development of corporate social media strategy and rolling content calendar

Brand Awareness:

Within an Agile environment, the marketing communications aspect of the role focuses on amplifying marketing initiatives and campaigns through proactive public and media relations efforts. Key within this is leading efforts to broadly communicate about Servus's community engagement efforts. With a broad impact across Servus's external communications, this is a high-impact role that serves to build Servus's external voice and shape stakeholder perception of our organization. Ultimately, this role helps influence how we show up to the public and our members as Alberta's largest credit union.

  • Identify and coordinate public relations activities that build the reach and impact of marketing initiatives and campaigns
  • Support marketing initiatives and campaigns through identifying and executing media relations activities including earned media opportunities and identification/coordination of paid media opportunities
  • Participate as a member of one or more Agile marketing squads, contributing to both strategy and (in particular) execution as a communications expert and resource
  • Conduct media prep sessions with spokespeople as required
  • Develop external and internal messaging in support of marketing initiatives. Ensure tone-of-voice alignment
  • Lead and implement efforts to promote Servus's Community Engagement activities, including social media, media and speaking opportunities

Requirements

To qualify, you'll need at least the following:

  • College diploma or university degree related to public relations, communications or journalism or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of external communications experience including 2+ years of experience with media relations and digital communications
  • Requires 2+ years of experience developing and implementing communications strategies

Although not required, the following experience and education/certifications are valuable assets:

  • Experience working within a large/complex organization
  • Experience working in a cooperative/member-based organization
  • Experience working in the Agile methodology
  • Accreditation or certification in communications, public relations or marketing
  • Membership in IABC or CPRS
  • Marketing communications and/or brand experience
  • Experience and/or training in graphic design, visual design, user experience and/or video for communication

Most importantly, we're looking for candidates who align with our values. We live our values in how we do business. We're not afraid to be different – in fact, we embrace our differences. We have a spirit that motivates us to give our best service to members every day. It's our values that attract many people to Servus – and keep them with us. We embrace our culture and heritage, and we pride ourselves on our strong commitment to the communities we serve and our efforts to build and maintain member loyalty. If this sounds like you, then we encourage you to apply!
