As a member of the Invest Alberta Corporation team, reporting to the Director, Communications and Stakeholder Relations, the Communications Specialist will collaborate with team members nationally and internationally to build strategic communications plans and materials for Invest Alberta.
This position is a key resource to clearly articulate Invest Alberta’s vision and activities when it comes to creating an inviting environment in Alberta that promotes growth and attracts global investment. The Communications Specialist will actively engage with various internal and external stakeholders including Government of Alberta departments and agencies and various regional development groups to create and execute strategic communications plans that continue to build a compelling story that supports our collective vision and mission. As a company ambassador, this role requires the highest level of professionalism and discretion.
Responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring media coverage and managing the media release distribution platform.
- Developing creative content for social media, Invest Alberta’s blog, newsletter, and presentations.
- Creating strategic communications plans so that Invest Alberta’s activities are communicated clearly and effectively.
- Project management to ensure initiatives are executed to plan, on time and on budget.
- Managing the flow of communications materials in a complex environment, ensuring that all appropriate parties have signed off on materials before they are made public.
- Leading the planning and roll-out of public announcements through the coordination of multiple partners and the creation of materials including communications plans, key messages, news releases, briefing notes, event plans, and speeches.
- Tracking and evaluating performance of communications activities
- Supporting Invest Alberta’s media relations, including outreach, organizing media events, and executing content strategies for traditional and online publications.
- Other duties as assigned.
Team coordination duties will include:
- Developing, maintaining, and strengthening professional working relationships across the organization and its larger network.
- Discretely handling confidential information and data – adhering to privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Acting as a resource to the entire Invest Alberta team.
- Leveraging technology to improve organization, communication, and efficiency.
- Actively building and maintaining an inviting company culture.
- Actively supporting the team; working to prevent and solve problems which may arise from working relationships among individuals and/or teams.
- Understanding the organization’s business model, how to create value, and how change impacts all areas of the organization; being a positive change agent.

Qualifications
- Flexible, responsive, and collaborative approach.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to understand practices, trends, technology, and how to evaluate approaches.
- A strong vision and desire for personal growth.
- A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in communications.
- Ability to prioritize and deliver results within a dynamic environment.
- Ability to manage pressure, tight timelines, and quick turnarounds.
- Experience managing relationships and leading coordination of joint campaigns with partners.
- Ability to create new and inventive ways to promote the organization and investment announcements.
- A high degree of self-motivation and good judgement
- A positive energy and positive attitude.
- Strong public relations knowledge and experience executing announcements and events.
