Department: Marketing

Employment Type: Contract / Temp

Location: Vancouver

Description

Hi there, we're Article. 👋 We're an online furniture company creating remarkably better furniture experiences one sofa at a time. And as the Communications Lead, you'll execute the brand's PR strategy, identify relevant media outlets, and secure press placement that reaches the brand's target audience.

This is a 12-month temp position.
Ideal start date: Sept 11th
Why We Need You
Our Communications team is looking for a PR maven to cover a parental leave on our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for securing editorial content in key publications to introduce customers to Article. This aligns with our continued efforts to grow the business.
Within the first few months, you'd be able to say you've established meaningful connections with leading media across North America to secure coverage. In a year, you'll be proud to say you supported the greater business by driving thousands of customers to article.com through earned editorial coverage.
Why Article?
As a Particle (people of Article), you will have a high level of autonomy to solve challenging, meaningful problems the best way you can. That means you're trusted to explore solutions you believe will work best (you're the expert, after all). You'll do all this while growing your skills within a company that is redefining the furniture industry.
We're a hybrid team so you can work from your house, our office, a coffee shop, or wherever you're inspired. This role is flexible on how often you come into the office, and we'll set you up with any gear you need to do your best work (think laptops, monitors, etc.). Our team is inclusive and appreciates regular interaction with one another. Whether it's a good morning Slack or a relevant pop culture tangent, we like to stay connected.
Team Atmosphere
Article's PR function is part of a larger Communications team that includes three different marketing channels: PR, Influencer Marketing, and Organic Social Media. Our team of 7 including out director, works hard and loves the hustle to reach an ambitious goal. We're a thoughtful bunch and we care deeply about our collective team success.
Ownership mindset runs strong on our team and each individual has a fair amount of autonomy. We expect team members to get the job done and be largely available while the rest of the team is working but offer flexible working hours to accommodate personal needs.
What You'll Do
The Communications Lead is accountable for delivering the number of editorial placements set in the channel's KPIs in support of the Marketing department's goals and is constantly working to improve the program's effectiveness and efficiency through observed results.
Core Responsibilities
  • Embody Article's mission to Relentlessly Pursue Remarkably Better, ensuring we're constantly looking to implement and improve best practices over time.
  • Proactively seek and secure media coverage in target publications. Maintain relationships with key publications and freelancers.
  • Keep a constant pulse on the media landscape: staff changes at relevant publications, best practices for media relations (including events), affiliate marketing, learnings from competitor activity, and inspiration from other sectors. Regularly share learnings and recommendations with the rest of the team.
  • Support the (Senior) Communications Manager in the development of campaign and program plans to secure press placement and meet marketing objectives.
  • Deliver results against KPIs and communicate what makes Article different from any other furniture brand.
  • Maintain channel reporting to reach key measures of success. Provide accurate, on-time input to channel and campaign reporting. Be able to identify key learnings and areas of opportunity.
  • Drive channel growth through the identification of new media targets which reach our target audience(s) and deliver against marketing objectives.
  • Prepare brand spokespeople for media opportunities and staff interviews.
  • Lead the development of media materials (key messaging, email pitches, media lists, press releases, and more).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver successful integrated campaigns.
Who You Are
  • A combination of agency and in-house experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and delivering effective media results.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to proactively pitch and secure media coverage, with specific examples.
  • +5 years of professional working experience in PR, Communications or a similar role.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate a key message.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications is nice to have or a related field.
  • Existing media relationships with US consumer media are a big plus.
  • A solid understanding of the North American media landscape.
Benefits
  • Onsite fitness equipment, change rooms with showers, and bike storage
  • The Article HQ is a converted warehouse, with an open layout, and well-stocked kitchens filled with snacks, premium coffees, and teas (and ALL the milks)
  • Our workspace is flexible. Choose where you sit - work from an Article sofa, one of our thoughtfully staged collaboration spaces, or a private meeting room
  • We want you to experience the obsession our customers have for Article furniture. You'll enjoy a 45% discount (15% for friends and family, too) on our whole product offering
  • A dog-friendly office. If you have a well-behaved, well-socialized pup, they're welcome too
  • You'll start with at least 29 days off between vacation, wellness days, holidays, and an Inclusion and Diversity Day
  • We offer access to excellent dental and health benefits packages, plus a health/lifestyle spending account for your total physical and mental well-being
  • When you're in the Vancouver office, we'll think you'll love:
