Job Summary

Located in the Office of Legislative Counsel, the Order in Council Administration Office delivers critical programs to support the BC legislative process, and administers provincial document programs for Proclamations, Commissioners for Taking Affidavits for British Columbia, Document Authentications, Service of Foreign Documents and Central Registry for Intergovernmental Agreements.


A Commissioner for Taking Affidavits (CFTA) for British Columbia is a person appointed or designated under the Evidence Act to administer oaths and affirmations and to take affidavits and declarations. CFTA appointments are made by order of the Attorney General or Deputy Attorney General, and support access to justice and administrative efficiencies for organizations whose work requires the performance of the functions of a CFTA.


Job Requirements


  • A combination of at least 2 years' related experience, education and/or training (e.g., clerical, secretarial, receptionist or administrative support).
  • Experience dealing with the public and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience using database, word processing and correspondence tracking applications.
  • Secondary school graduation (Grade 12) or equivalent (GED).


Preference May Be Given To Candidates With


  • Experience applying legislation, regulations and policies in a program, legal or regulatory environment.
  • Experience dealing with federal or provincial government officials.
  • A completed post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., certificate, diploma or degree in administration, etc.)

About This Position


This position is excluded from union membership.


An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.


This position can be performed from Victoria or Vancouver.


Flexible work options are available, this position may be able work to a few days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.


Reporting to the Manager, the Commissioner Program Coordinator is responsible for the administration and operation of the CFTA program. This work includes reviewing applications for CFTA appointment; corresponding with applicants and stakeholder organizations to assess applications; preparing briefing materials and appointment orders; and managing correspondence on behalf of the program. The position also plays a key role in developing and maintaining guidelines and systems to ensure effective program and service delivery.


A suitable candidate enjoys working with legislation, regulations and policies in a program environment, and is capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Strong oral and written communication skills and previous experience dealing with the public, stakeholders and federal and provincial government officials will be an asset.
