Clinical Nurse Specialist 7 West

In addition to the above focus, expected outcomes for this new advanced practice nursing role include; working in partnership with other care navigators/coordinators in rehabilitation services and the acute care system in order to ensure the right level of care is provided at the right place, right time and by right provider; development of a mentorship model for skilled HHS ICU nurses and community based nurses – building capacity to smooth the way for continuum of care; development of triage criteria and processes for neurosurgical patients; provision of clinical care to complex neurosurgical patients and assess readiness for rehabilitation services; and participation in and taking the lead for research and quality improvement initiatives to advance neurosurgical patient care practices and the overall patient experience. This position will report jointly to the Program Director – Neurosciences, and the Chief of Nursing Practice.

• Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
• Master's Degree in Nursing
• Formal leadership experience preferred
• Recent (minimum 5 years) clinical practice within the last 8 years
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Eligible for faculty appointment
• Membership in provincial, federal or international professional associations
• Experience in clinical research is an asset
• Ability to develop partnerships and strategic plans
• Demonstrated commitment to patient and family-centered care
• Experience in neurosurgical nursing within the last 3 years
• Demonstrated ability for innovation, independent action initiative, problem solving, organization and prioritization

Unit Summary

The Hamilton General Neurosciences Program supports multiple clinical services including Regional Programs for Central South Ontario. These services provides specialized care to neurosurgical, stroke, trauma, and spine patient populations utilizing a multidisciplinary and collaborative team approach to patient care. Hamilton Health Sciences is one of five Neuroscience Centres in the province specializing in neurosurgical, cranial and spine services and is recognized by the Ministry of Health and Neurosurgery Ontario as a Regional Neurosurgical Centre which supports patient access to emergent/ urgent as well as scheduled neurosurgical interventions for the HNHB and WW LHIN’s and for several regions in the province- Thunderbay and Mississauga.
