Prairie North Construction is hiring a Field Survey Technician for work on Civil Infrastructure projects throughout AB
Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Project Manager – Survey & Machine Control and the daily supervision of the Project Superintendent perform construction surveys and data management in support of construction activities on assigned projects and perform various construction related duties.
1. Key Responsibilities 1.1.
Duties
1.1.1. Perform Topographic and Quantity Surveys (35%)
Perform topographic and quantity surveys to track quantities of work performed related to contract bid items. ·
Manage and submit data obtained in the field to the Project Manager – Survey & Machine Control in a timely manner (minimum weekly). ·
Perform field calculations of requested quantities to the project Superintendent.
1.1.2. Perform Construction Staking and layout (35%) ·
Provide construction staking in support of the Project superintendent and project equipment and labor. ·
Layout and set grades and or limits of work in support of the Project superintendent and project equipment and labor.
1.1.3. Set up and Monitor GPS Equipment Machine Control (10%) ·
Install project alignment and design data into equipment with GPS machine control. ·
Check machine communication with base and accuracy of the machine calibration. ·
Perform or assist in machine control calibrations.
1.1.4. Other Duties as Required (20%) ·
Maintain and service survey equipment. ·
At times when no surveying is required operate equipment (if qualified) and/or perform labor activities as directed by the Project Superintendent.
Other duties as assigned.
1.2. Most Difficult and/or Complex aspects of the Position
The most difficultand complexaspects of this position revolve around data and time
management. Care and attention are required to balance between data pickup and
construction staking to ensure that the required data is obtained to calculate accurate
quantities relating to the project bid items and not to hinder production of the equipment
and labor performing the work.
2. Decision Making Accountability
Decisions made in this position can affect the accuracy and completeness of data
obtained as well as the accuracy of machine-controlled equipment. Time management
decisions can result in lost productivity of project equipment and labor.
3. Administrative Responsibility
The administrative responsibility of this position is directly related to managing project
survey data and submitting it in a complete, accurate, and timely manner.

4.1.1. Project Manager – Survey & Machine Control
· Receive project assignment.
· Submit data in a timely manner.
· Receive instructions relating to data pickup and coding.
· Receive project data and control as received from the project owner’s representative.
· Receive direction relative to survey and machine control issues.
4.1.2. Project Superintendent
· Receive daily work instructions and direction.
· Provide staking and measurement progress verbal reports.
4.1.3. Project Foreman
.Communicate survey and staking progress and completion.
4.1.4. Other Staff
· Communicate where working and progress.
4.2. External
4.2.1. Project Owner Representative
4.2.2. Project Owner Representative Staff
· Receive control and design revisions.
5. Working Conditions
5.1. Environmental
The work required in this position involves working outdoors with exposure to a wide variety weather and terrain conditions as well as construction site hazards. · Working alone may be required at times.
5.2. Physical Effort
Moderate to high physical effort is required while performing duties.
6. Qualifications
6.1. Education
This position requires a minimum High School diploma. Any post-secondary geomatics courses would be an asset. 6.2. Training / Experience
This position requires previous construction experience. Equipment operating experience would be an asset. A minimum Class 5 driver’s license is required.
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: 10-12 hour shifts, Weekends, Monday to Friday
Ability to commute/relocate:
Experience: Surveying: 3 years (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
Clean class 5 drivers license
Provide 3 yr Drivers Abstract
