Business Unit Controller (2301006) Working Model: Location: Calgary, AB Where the Chemistry Happens… The Business Unit Controller is expected to be an advisor, decision maker and a trusted business partner to the Canada BU leadership team. The BU Controller will be directly responsible for the financial & strategic steering, forecasting & reporting of the business’ operations, as well as development of financial KPIs. This will require strong collaboration and influencing skills to work cross functionally and steer both long and short-term results. This includes the ongoing management of the strategic and operating financial plans, effective working capital management, as well as ensuring that internal and external financial policies and procedures are followed. This role is involved in a highly complex end-to-end fulfillment (rebates/incentives) financial process, ensuring high level of integrity and accuracy as it relates to accruals, reconciliation and payment processes to customers and channel partners. This requires strong collaboration with the CA Customer Solutions Team.


As the BU controller and the face to the business and BASF Canada Inc., this role has high level of operational, strategic, and leadership accountability, with responsibility for talent development across sites and functional areas (e.g., BU Controlling, Site Controlling, Data Management). Formula for Success: You Will…


Be Responsible for the development and monitoring of financial budgeting, forecasting, and reporting of business’ financial performance (full P&L). Responsible for analyzing trends, identifying efficiencies and being a trusted business partner for both strategic and operational steering requirements. Lead a team of seven analysts (functional & administrative) with a focus on talent development and effective succession planning within the Regional Controlling Team.


Lead a highly complex area of responsibility as it relates to customer rebate / incentive / prepayment programs. This includes accrual reconciliation, payment, and compliance related areas. As member of the Canada and Controlling Leadership teams, take the lead on business steering, controlling / finance topics, provide ad hoc analysis/input as useful for the business. Establish a set of recommendations for decision making and optimal business steering.

10+ years of strong finance / controlling experience. Strong leadership and influencing skills are essential. As a leader and supervisor of people, leading and motivating team members to cultivate relationships, strive for effectiveness, excellence and an overall value generation is crucial. Demonstrated strong communication, presentation, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Excellent strategic and analytical thinking supported by market and business insights. Ability to challenge, present new ideas, drive change and influence decisions. High degree of innovative mindset and creative thinking is essential; role is expected to partner with key stakeholders, management and others in the organization while delivering value and impact. Strong Entrepreneurial drive with proven ability to initiate, lead and execute process improvements, projects, and alternatives for financial steering purposes. Preparation & Evaluation of Business Scenarios; including sensitivity studies, validation, and developing business steering recommendation. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships across functions and businesses (NA and Globally). Demonstrated high proficiency in global reporting tools and ability to drive digitization, automation, and simplification. Agility to manage highly complex business requirements, ad-hoc initiatives, and projects. Up to 25% of travel is expected for this position, subject to business needs and changing requirements.
